Hey Grassman...how'd I do while you were gone
    WOW!
However, looks like EVERYTHING, I told you in Jan-feb, would happen did.
Looks like you did a good job of facilitating the changes. Great job, Dog!
I just do not like this many Juco's, but-----------------.
We have 5...didn't the Sweet 16 team have 4.
So does that mean we're going to the Elite 8????
People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

It's just me. I do not believe you can build a succesful program on the backs of Juco's. Short term yes, long term ???????????
I think it gives your program a lack of credibility.

Over half of our roster is of the 4 year variety. That number will get even larger next year. I'm not concerned. Credibility is built in winning on a consistent basis. We're in the process of doing that.

But regarding JUCOs, if the kids graduate, and rules aren't broken in bringing them and keeping them at BU, what difference does it make where they come from?
        Onward and Upward!

IMO... if Coach Les had the opportunity, I bet he would have filled Fears and DW's spots with 4 yr players... but with the limited time remaining, he did the best he could. I suspect in the future, Coach Les will fill more spots with 4 year players.

The name of the game is winnng. If it takes 4 jucos to do it, fine. We're not Duke and many other teams who have their pick of freshmen. Dick Versace proved you can build a program around jucos.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

This is exactly what I thought of when it was questioned how many "great" teams have done it when relying on 4-5 jucos. The high-major teams that turn out to be the "great" ones almost year in and year out have the luxury of having the best 4-year players in the country come in every year. I don't mind having an 8 to 5 ratio for a season now and then.....and I don't think 9 to 4 is a bad mix at all for an MVC team. We are at the limit for my comfort zone right now only because of the questions regarding SS. That brings us dangerously close to having 7 four-year players and 5 jucos. Hopefully we can get West and Buycks to show up next year. I'll take just one of them if Roth is added to the mix. The 2009-10 recruiting class will be a good opportunity to get the mix back to 9-4 or even 10-3.

Ryan Thornton would not be elgible to play this season so I think it is a stretch to think he will come to B.U. and we lost Buycks which would have given us 4 freshmen for the 2007-2008 class so we picked up a Juco; 3 freshmen recruits a year will stabilize a program as you do not want to lose more then 3 to 4 players a year to graduation; we need to get 3 more good freshmen in the 2008-2009 class.

I agree with your statement about freshmen adding stability to a program and not wanting to lose more than 3 to 4 players to graduation. As of right now, we will have 7 (6 scholarshipped) players graduating after the 2008-09 season....4 jucos, 2 four-year players, and a four-year walk-on. I've said it before, the 2009-10 recruiting class will be very important and I feel it should be used to balance things out a bit. Ideally, we would get a couple of jucos and 4-5 freshmen with that class. Obviously, many things could change before then, but I'm assuming the three verbals (2 freshmen and 1 juco) we currently have actually show up next year and everyone else is still with the program.

I do not think that Jim has attempted to build a program around juco's. It's just how the ball rolled.

Had everything worked perfectly between BU and the players, BU would have these additional 4 year players on the roster next year:
                      POB
                      XC
                      Stemler
                      Buycks
                      Jassey

I like this a lot......could work into something Big before it's all said and done! Here is an example of a kid who really wanted to be @ BU!

Let's not forget we have 3 HS kids coming in Maniscalco, Egolf, and Thompson, in addition to a sophomore 4-year player in Andrew Warren. Ruffin, Crouch, and Singh are also 4-year guys, and POB would have been a senior this year if he had stayed all 4 years. I think this whole 'BU is full of JUCO's' is getting blown out of proportion. On top of that, if they're quality players and people, what the heck does it matter how many JUCO's we have?

Agree, very, very few schools have gotten anywhere near the benefit that BU has gotten from the junior college kids in the past few years, as I have detailed in a different thread.
