  • What did posters think of Victory, Honor & Glory

Now that most have received their advance orders, I'm just wondering what posters think of this book and DVD.

First off, I am very happy and thankful that BU and the AllAboutSports people got together to collaborate on this. It is truly a great offering and one any BU fan needs to have.

I don't want this to sound like sour grapes, but interestingly - I found myself more captivated by the book than the DVD. And I was thinking the DVD would have even been the better item.

The DVD is good mind you. Great editing, well done, etc. I guess I was just expecting more actual game highlights and maybe strong season recaps. The music videos in particular from 86 and 96 were very good in that they had actual game footage.

I understand that they can't use actual NCAA tourney highlights, but this could have been done better. There was no mention of the seeding fiasco's of 86 and 88.

In my opinion, I would like to see more actual game footage and more storylines about how each season went. I know it could be long, but I am guessing the posters here would eat that stuff up.

Let me know what you think.

Would have liked to see more in-depth stuff about the recent 10-15 years. That was covered in just a few pages.

Maybe that will be focused on in the next volume.

Also, there have to be a lot more old photos and stories of the teams from the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's than were included. I realize they can't put everything in there, but I would have liked to see more details about those years.

I feel the DVD was the main selling point.

The book I thought was kind of disappointing, in that it was mostly just a reader's guide for the DVD. I was also principally disappointed in the lack of information on the 20's and Depression Era leading up to the "Famous Five", as that is when Bradley began playing a more national schedule, and was trying to become a member of the Western Conference, until the Depression hit.

Obviously, it is a picture book, so the emphasis will be on the visual instead of detail.

However, considering the limited number of resources available, and the timeliness of the volume, it helps fill some gaps and brings up to date the available print history of Bradley Basketball.

I have to agree with you on this one squirrel. IMO, the dvd is the main selling point because we get to hear anecdotes from some of Bradley's greatest players. My opinion about the book would be different if the book covered various aspects about Bradley Basketball not covered on the dvd.
        Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I thought that the book might have had more text than pictures.. there does seem to be a lot of focus on years previously..

            J Les Sample video

This sample video of a "visionary" Jim Les is almost surreal and eerie

(Just click on the Jim Les name to watch, for those that don't already have this book and CD)

I thought the book and dvd were great, but I agree with some of the posters who wanted more game highlights. I was hoping there would be more of those.

Maybe what would be cool is to have almost an entire game on the dvd. And if BU could get the players in that game to provide a commentary track as the game plays, that would be awesome. Dave Snell could be interviewing the players to help keep the commentary lively.

I like the version of this that WEEK did, where they cut that speech by Jim Les, and interspersed it with video of over 1000 people at the airport to welcome them home from Auburn Hills, and the NCAA selection party, and the cover of Sports Illustrated, exactly like Jim said.

I liked the book and the DVD, but personally I think it looked as if it was thrown together very last-minute to capitalize on the Sweet 16. I think a much more in-depth, detailed job could have been done that likely would have necessitated at least 2 DVD's. I feel like they didn't focus enough on certain areas, or go into enough detail with certain era's of Bradley Basketball. I'm a details nut, so maybe it's just me.
