  • Sweet 16 benefits...

When are they going to come to fruition? I LIKE are crop of recruits but I don't see one that we couldn't have got before the sweet 16 run. Everybody said year two would be the year.

Second place in recruiting gets you nothing. Yes I see us up against some BCS schools but we need to win some battles.

One we SEEMED to have won over Louisville with Buycks now seems like a kid we will never see. Coley to UNCC and Knapp to MS are hardly losing to BCS types.

Is it the facilities.....do we need a bit more WOW for em. To bad Coley couldn't have been here for an actual game.

Again, I'm happy with what we have but we need to hit a few homeruns and not just be happy with base hits.

Come on dogs. Are you serious? Why is everyone so down that Charlotte got Coley? Also have we lost Coley officially yet? We have a top 30 recruiting class right now correct. The coaches have done a great job recruting and it will only get better. You have to remember that we are scaring off some guys because of the talent base that we have already. Also remember that we have had to MAKE some of these other scholarships come available. There is no guaranteed scholarship here to be offering to these players. When you go after teammates you have to be careful because both of them know that they are BOTH being recruited with ONE scholarship. This is the way it goes. Just answer this one question for me.........When was the last time BU had a recruiting class with 3 seven footers in it? Settle down Dogs.

I think it is official that Charlotte got Coley.

Is BU's top 30 class with or without Buycks? Not trying to hate here, but: without Buycks, I don't think it rates as a top 30 class anymore.

I''m "settle".... Maybe its just the hype we all have been placing on Coley but just like Sikes of last year he would have been a difference maker for us this year IMO.

Again I like our recruits and think they will be fine but a solid Juco makes them even better and gives JL some options.

Also, as I stated, I don't see a current recruit that we couldn't have got before the sweet 16 run. Lets face it BU is a tough sell....while WE all know how wonderful a place it is JL is behind the 8 ball for a variety of reasons. Name recogniton, facilities....

Now we lost Buycks.....Fears gone (probably a good thing and NOT BU's fault) but we really need to offset these losses.

There is still time and I trust the coaches, lets hope some good news is just around the corner.

            well....not quite.........

Two players that are coming this fall are said to be 6-9 and 6-10 and still growing, thus the possibility they could reach 7-ft,
and Xavier Crawford who is at Yuba College (juco) and coming in 2008 is 7-ft.

I think BU has only one true 7-footer in this class (David Collins), but one 6-11 player (Anthony Thompson) coming in and another 6-11 player waiting in the wings at Yuba (Xavier Crawford).

                POB...
Three 7 footers in this recruiting class? Ummm...no. We have 1 7 footer (Collins) that was not very highly ranked in the Juco rankings, a 6'10" kid (Thompson) who has some upside, but is a project and appears to be a long way from being Div I ready...and a 6'9" kid from Alaska (Egolf) who is intriguing, but apparently was only being offered by us, Pacific, St. Mary's, and Santa Clara...
                A) That doesn't add up to three 7 footers
and B) None of those guys is exactly a blue-chipper.

Top 30 recruiting class? Totally absurd. We have some guys coming in that are potentially nice players, but the top 30 recruiting class thing is ridiculous. I assume you are looking at the one site that values quantity over quality...(i.e., a team that has 6 recruits coming in that are all 2 star players = 12 points, and in there system that recruiting class would be ranked ahead of a team that only has 2 guys coming in...even if they were Greg Oden and Kevin Durant...2 5-star guys = 10 points)...that ranking system is totally bogus.

Assuming all of our signed recruits make it to campus, we have a nice collection of guys coming in, probably one of the three best incoming classes in the Valley (along with CU and SIU...), but no way is this class anywhere near the 30th best in the country when measuring it qualitatively (not quantitatively...)...sorry.

That ranking included Buycks, but not Cole-Scott or Collins.

Wow...a little fickle aren't we? Back-to-back 22 win seasons, and a GREAT incoming class, and we're whining because we didn't get a spring JUCO? Wow.

On our rating 1-10 rating scale a top five player nationally is worth 10 points, a top 10 player nationally is worth nine points, a player in the 11-40 range nationally is worth eight points, a player in the 41-70 range nationally is worth six points, a player in the 71-100 range nationally is worth four points, a player in the 101-300 range nationally is worth three points, a player in the 301-1000 range nationally is worth two points, and anybody not ranked among the top 1000 gets one point. Junior college and prep school are factored in as if they were the equivalent of a high school senior.

I'm with dogs on this one....I'm not trying to be overly negative, but where is the 'recruiting boon' that we were supposed to see as a result of the Sweet 16 run?
I guess I just don't see it. We lose Coley to Charlotte...we lose Knapp to Missouri State. Nothing wrong with those schools, they are on the same level as BU, with all things considered...but we should be winning some of those battles.
I know we reportedly got Cole-Scott over Creighton and Charlotte was looking at Collins...and I'm sure they will be nice players at BU, but these are not exactly the most highly rated kids...they are not the 'next level' of recruits that we were led to believe we could see at BU after our NCAA run.
I guess I'm just tired of reading things like 'BU still listed with Iman Schumpert', 'Draymond Green still has BU on his list', 'Nick Freundt has offer from BU', etc. and looking at this as some kind of moral victory...because we all know that those guys are going elsewhere.
Just frustrating...I know that we are not going to get a recruiting class full of Rivals top 150 guys to come to BU, but I'm just tired of feeling like we always have to scrape together a bunch of guys that 'are projects with some upside', 'fell through the cracks', or 'were off of everyone else's radar'...maybe there is good news out there on the recruiting front...but I fear we are going to see nothing more than an Andre Gilbert siging in the next couple of weeks.

A similar thing happened in the early 80's. Dick Versace thought he could parlay the NIT success into recruiting nationally. It was quite unsuccessful. And as a result, he had several bad years when he failed to recruit well with all his national efforts. But when he focuse back to recruiting Chicago and Illinois, he had that sensational 1984 recruiting class of 1984 with Tim Bankston, Hersey Hawkins, Jerry Thomas, Greg Jones, Donald Powell, Jerome Childs, Trevor Trimpe, and Len Bertolini.

Maybe the future of Bradley recruiting will focus back on Chicago and Illinois. There is enough talent here.

I think we've been pretty successful so far nationally. We're brining in a kid from Texas, a kid from Alaska, and a kid from Iowa. I have no doubt that we'll find the players we need, whether they're from Illinois or not.
