  • 2 Mississippi State Starters Leave the Team

2 of Mississippi State's starters and 1 reserve have announced they are transferring.
Richard Delk and twin brother Reginald Delk were both starters and played key roles on the team that advanced to the semifinals of the NIT and beat Bradley.
The decision reportedly came after meetings with coach Rick Stanfield.
MSU has several top 100 recruits coming in, and a couple of freshmen currently on the team played a lot of the time. I would guess that the coach told the Delks they may not have their starting spots next year. The 3rd transfer, Bernard Rimmer, played very little this season.

In a separate report, the three players all said something to the effect that they were looking for more playing time.

But both of the Delk brothers had worked their way into the starting lineup, and one of them started 33 games and the other 26 games...so I am not aure where they are going to get any more playing time that that as sophomores!!

Something else must be going on.

I think the answer is in this short paragraph--

But while the Delks started, they didn???‚¬?„?t always finish the games. Often, Stansbury leaned toward playing true freshmen Ben Hansbrough and Barry Stewart more in the game???‚¬?„?s final minutes.

I suspect the Delks were told they will be coming off the bench next year while Hansbrough and Stewart start.
