  • Top unsigned senior in country- 5-stars- commits to Pacific?

The Pacific Tigers must feel like they just won the lottery. Patrick Patterson is a 5-star forward from Huntington, West Virginia, who is the top uncommitted player in the country. He had been recruited hard by Florida, Kentucky, Duke, Virginia, and Wake Forest. But today, it's being reported that he will commit to a school that hadn't even been recruiting him, University of the Pacific. It gives hope to all midmajors.

Note- I can't find a single other source at this time that is reporting this commitment, but this article sounds legitimate, and it's well past April 1st. Even the most active message boards like Kentucky's don't have this reported, so I am still a little skeptical.

Just today articles like this one were saying Patterson was the top priority for new Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie. He was planning on visiting him today--

Wow, that's unbelievable. Amazing stroke of luck for Pacific if it is in fact true. Rather Pacific gets him and makes a run at the big boys.

Is there something on this link that I'm not seeing? The most recent entry on this blog that I see is from April 10th.....the Pacific story was from today.

That was some atrocious writing -- even if it was an April Fool's story.

              Patino? C'mon...

CABUfan's link does have a mention about BU recruit Steffphon Pettigrew in the latest posting, but I didn't see anything about Patterson.

edit: It's in the post from Thursday, April 5.

My bad....I saw April 13th at the top of the Pacific article, but it's obvious from the dates on the responses at the bottom that it was from an earlier date.....if I had read all the way to the bottom with the responses, I would have realized it was a hoax right away.

Funny that the hoax is the University of the Pacific. Back in 1995 the assistant basketball coach (the head coach was out to lunch) got a call from England. The caller stated he had only started playing basketball when he was 17. He said he found Pacific by randomly closing his eyes and picking it from a catalog. He further stated he was 7'. The assistant said they had no available scholorships and did he mean 6'. No the caller said, he was 7' and he would pay his own way. Although pretty much a bust in the NBA that caller was Michael Olowokandi. He did play at Pacific good enough to become a number 1 overall pick in the NBA.

                    Michael Olowokandi on Wikipedia
