"Wichita State has zeroed in on Winthrop's Gregg Marshall as its top candidate to replace Mark Turgeon, multiple sources close to the situation told ESPN.com.

Marshall was expected to tour Wichita State on Friday, but it was unclear whether an offer would be tendered during his visit. An offer, or a decision by Marshall on whether he would accept the job if offered, could be made by the end of the weekend."

I think Marshall would be a good hire for WSU, and it's a logical step up in job status for him.

However, I found curious the following statement in the ESPN.com article.....

Wichita State, with its passionate fan base and impressive facilities, is considered one of the top three jobs in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Do you think CU and SIU are considered the other two top jobs in most people's eyes, or is BU part of that mix?

I would say CU is number 1 for sure, when you consider salary, facilities, including 14,000 seat qwest center. I think once BU is done with our facility upgrade we could be number 2. Until then Wichita is probably ahead of us.
      Can we start winning soon?

Yes, I think that CU, WSU, and SIU are the top 3, BU pulling up in a close 4th.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

sup Bradley fans!!! Just thought I would stop by and see what's going on in your guys' offseason...luckily a little calmer than ours I think...

But, WSU did offer Marshall a job and threw almost $1 mill a year at him. He met with the WSU players today and toured the campus. He's flying back to SC tomorrow and has a meeting scheduled with his players. He said he will let WSU know of his decision by tomorrow.

Hopefully he'll accept as I think it would be a good hire, plus after him I'm not sure how good of candidates are left.

Thanks for the report. Let's hope WSU has better luck with hiring an up-and-coming coach from an east coast midmajor than Evansville did 5 years ago when they hired Merfeld.

              Marshall hired at WSU

Wichita State has scheduled a press conference for 1:30 p.m. CT to announce Winthrop's Gregg Marshall as its new basketball coach, multiple sources told CBS SportsLine.com on Saturday morning.

Marshall will replace Mark Turgeon, who left this week to be the new coach at Texas A&M.

Marshall visited the Wichita State campus Friday and met with the players. According to a source, he told Wichita State athletic director Jim Schaus early Saturday he will accept an offer that should essentially double the salary Marshall was earning at Winthrop.

Marshall was 194-83 in nine years at Winthrop. He led the Eagles to a 29-5 mark and a win over Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament this past season.

Wichita State is expected to return five of its top eight players from a team that finished 17-14, but was at one time ranked in the top 10 of both major polls. The star is P.J. Couisnard, a 6-foot-4 wing who averaged 11.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists as a junior.
