    9.3% tuition hike ...

On that same subject, BU is also increasing tuition. 6.5 percent, I believe.

I knew that. Just passing along that BU is increasing tuition as well. I should've made that more clear in my first post. My bad.

I kind of think this thread's a bit ridiculous... Their raising of tuition would pay their coaches many times over, which tells me most of the money is for other parts of the university.

          SIU-E... 14,000 students x $1094 (increase) = ~$15.3M

          SIU-C... 21,000 students x $540 = ~$11.3M

Please, don't go calling SIU an embarrassment for paying for a raise for their alma mater coach who got them a 4 seed and contends for the MVC for a couple of years. Because theres a good chance you're gonna have to back track because BU's going to have to do the same thing in the next year or two, don't think JL doesn't know he's getting a third of what CLo is.

Lowery was already in line to make $300k next season. The rest will come from private donors. This ratio will continue for the length of the contract. The tuition hike has nothing to do with coaches salaries.

Lowery's salary will come mostly from private sector

Go Southern Go, your link leads to a blank page, but even this argument of "private donors" doesn't hold water.
those are donors to SIU that earmark their gift for Lowery's salary, so then the $$ that SIU would have had to pay (and are still on the hook for just in case those donors dry up) well, then that money can go elsewhere.

They probably ran out of money to pay their web page bill

There seemed to be a question about where the money was going to coming from and Im just answering the question. I dont know how much money has been raised but that is their plan. Just defussing the arguement that tuition was raised to pay C-Lo's salary, even if it was only a joke.

Hopefully this link will work better.

Tuition is one of many revenues that go into the coffers, as do tax dollars, donors gifts, grants, etc.

The coach's salary is one of many costs the University pays right out of it's checking account, as I am sure Chris Lowery's paycheck isn't all too different than anyone else's at SIU, just a much bigger amount.

For anyone to say that "tax dollars aren't used" or "tuition revenues aren't used" is just downright inaccurate and misleading.

If I buy lots of beer but pay for it out of my checking account, YET insist I am not using the revenue from my paycheck, only the money from my tax refund, then do you see the dishonesty here? There just isn't any way to separate the money coming out of those accounts and guaranteeing where it came from.

GSG!!! -- If you want me to believe that independent DONORS are paying Chris Lowery's salary, then I will believe it if I see one of his paychecks drawn on a donors bank account and signed by the donor..and you know that just isn't ever going to be the case.

Not saying his entire salary is coming from donors. The athletic budget is in place and he was set to make $300k this year anyway. Those are university dollars no doubt. Its the difference that seems to be in question. But to imply that the university is raising tuition "ONLY" to pay a coaches salary is also very inaccurate and misleading.

But they are raising tuition to cover their costs, an unexpected one of which is the big jump in CLo's salary.
