A couple unrelated things:
First- I talked with someone who works at Northeastern Junior College, and it's someone who knows Rashad Austin pretty well. Word is that Rashad is still not sure about his decision and is waiting to see if and what offers open up.
Some of the offers he has are "conditional" and hinge on whether the scholshsips at the offering school are taken or declined by a more preferred recruit, so since the LOI period goes on for over a month, it still may be a couple weeks before Rashad signs.
Also--one of the top uncommitted seniors, Jai Lucas has decided to wait and see what opens up also, since schools with new coaches are finding out suddenly they have open scholarships.
--Michigan's top recruit Corperryale Harris is staying with his choice of Michigan but Alex Legion still may opt out.
--University of Hawaii is still one of the remaining open coaching spots, but they are beginning to lose their recruits to other schools. They ahve narrowed their coaching candidates to four:
Hawaii associate coach Bob Nash
Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Henry Bibby
Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach Dean Demopoulos
Rice head coach Willis Wilson
--Wichita State is in full panic mode as they have lost their head coach right at the worst possible time.
Their potential recruits are bolting and they haven't even begun the process of getting a new coach.
They have four fine incoming recruits, all of whom have already expressed interest in opting out of their LOI's, but here is the statement from Wichita's athletic director:
"WSU will be reluctant to grant releases, Schaus said. He wants to protect WSU's investment in recruiting the players -- and the cost of holding their scholarship and not recruiting another athlete"
It would take something, extraordinary for us to consider otherwise," he said. "It's not our policy to release student-athletes who signed a national letter of intent."
They also have one fine recruit who hasn't signed yet, Howard (Texas) College forward Brandon Sampay. Sampay has now said he will wait until later in the period to make a decision.
PLUS, WSU was right on the brink of getting a committment from one of the top juco players in the nation, Ramon Clemente (Paris JC, All American), who is now backing off because of Turgeon's exit.
