I've never even heard of the guy.....just looked at his profile on the Iowa roster page......skinny as a rail......had very underwhelming stats in high school for a 6-11 guy.
Sounds like he did Iowa a favor by freeing up his scholarship.
Josh Crawford was a late bloomer who grew several inches in his final two years in high school. He didn't really excel in high school (16 pts, 9 rebs) but did have a very fine AAU season after his senior year and began getting offers.
Heeding some advice from his AAU coach, he was looking to go to a prep school and build strength then reopen his recuirtment, but....when Steve Alford found himself with a couple open scholarships in August of 2006 (due to a couple recruits failed to "gain entrance" he decided to use one on Josh Crawford. Josh thought he wouldn't be able to ever do any better than a scholarship to one of the top Big Ten schools, so he accepted with the idea of redshirting his 1st year.
Very likely the new coach, Lickliter, has told the kid how deep he'll be in the playing rotation, and that's got Josh looking elsewhere, even though he'll lose another year.
He was offered and committed on August 16, 2006, only a couple days before class started for the fall semester at Iowa.
The only other schools interested were Pepperdine and SMU.
