  • New ISU assistant suddenly resigns

He sorta pulls a Dana Altman!

Mike Jackson, Michigan assistant under Tommy Amaker, was just hired and introduced as a new assistant under Tim Jankovich, and now he resigns at ISU, and heads back to Michigan as new assistant under John Beilein!
    Go figure..
Two weeks after leaving for an assistant coach's position with Illinois State, Mike Jackson is back with the Michigan men's basketball team. Jackson resigned Monday at Illinois State and will be the first member of new Michigan coach John Beilein's...

    That sucks

I know the rest of the Valley will be laughing at us again. Unreal.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

I have no idea. I can't access redbirdfan at work here. the only thing I can guess is it hasn't been made public or they just haven't heard yet.

Really sucks because there was a little blurb on Jankovich and Jackson making inroads on ilprepbullseye.

This pisses me off. I guess he couldn't pass up going back to Michigan? Thye prob doubled his salary too. I can't fault a guy for that, but this hurts us.

        frustrating.

This has been the strangest year for coach hirings!

I had just noticed this morning that ISU posted Jackson's page on the Redbird website--

Now this occurs! This was just posted withing the past few minutes on the Redbird site--

This kind of move likely resulted from some key player or recruit who told the new Michigan coach he was leaving because he had become close to Jackson before Michigan fired him along with head coach Tommy Amaker.
Thus Michigan was forced to make a conciliatory call back to Jackson, and probably a boost in his salary, to lure him back in hopes of salvaging their recruit or player!

I'm sure that's exactly what happened. Unfortunately for Jankovich, ISU, and its many fans it occurs at our expense. It sounded like in the 10 days he was aboard, he was doing some good things. This is unfortunate to say the least for us. bad timing.

Little doubt that Michigan was able to lure him back with a sweeter offer,
and I agree it probably had to do with keeping the present players or helping with the Michigan recruits.

He decided to stay in Michigan because his family wouldnt be able to relocate to Normal for at least a year. His son is a special needs child.

So it was a family decision apparently.

They always seem to find a 'family' excuse. It's a great crutch to have...

That and he probably got a hefty pay increase to go back to Mich. Whatever the case, it sucks for us.

Problem with todays society is people cannot be trusted unles you make them sign a contract on the spot as their word or verbal agreement means nothing.

Not blasting ISU but why would a guy leave as the assitant of UM to be assitant at ISU. I'm guessing he needed a job after UM head coach got canned.

If so it makes you wonder if he really ever wanted the ISU job for more than "employment".

Mike Jackson - who was hired as assistant at ISU and stayed less than two weeks before quitting and going back to his previous job at Michigan...

is in the news again....I guess you could call him an ex-ISU assistant...but he's going to be announced as the new assistant coach at Purdue......so this is probably what his short stay at ISU was all about..
he probably figured it was more likely that he'd move up the ladder from Michigan than from ISU...
The Wolverine.com and the Detroit Free Press are reporting Michigan assistant basketball coach Mike Jackson is leaving for Purdue. Jackson, who came to Ann Arbor ...
