  • Bradley trivia- win a prize

I just picked up a 1983 NIT program.--

It has all the results and information regarding the 1982 NIT, which was won by Bradley. As can be seen from the picture, Mitchell Anderson is on the cover, and there are more pictures featuring Bradley players inside. This year was the 25th anniversary of Bradley's NIT championship.

One thing listed in this program (and I can't find listed anywhere else, including the NIT website) are the individual player awards for the 1982 NIT.

The MVP was Bradley's Mitchell Anderson.
In addition, the NIT named a 5 man 1982 All Tournament Team (note: this 5 man team does not include the MVP Anderson).
For a nice prize of Bradley memorabilia, here is a very tough Bradley/1982 NIT trivia question:
Can anyone name the 5 players (and the teams they played for) named to the 1982 NIT All Tournament Team?

Since this might be the hardest trivia question we've had here, we'll have the following prizes--
    1) A couple of rally towels (a red "Pluck the Birds" towel given out at the Illinois State game, and a white "Sweet Celebration" towel with a closeup of the Sweet 16 ring that I think was given out at the 11/11/06 home game against DePaul)
    2) A mint set of basketball cards of the 1992-1993 Bradley Braves. This was a high quality set given away at one of the 1992-1993 home games, and contains 18 cards with great action pictures of each of the Bradley players (Anthony Parker, Aaron Zobrist, Billy Wright, Dwayne Funches, Deon Jackson, Duane Broussard, Roger Suchy, David Winslow, Rick Harris, Chad Kleine, James Baptist, Kerry Burrell, Marcus Pollard, Coach Mo, the assistant coaches, the broadcast team, a checklist, and a special commemorative card with Jim Les and Hersey Hawkins on it. This set has Anthony Parker as a freshman, the earliest AP card issued anywhere.
    3) And finally, a March 27, 2006 issue of Sports Illustrated with the famous picture of Marcellus Sommerville on the cover, and stories about Bradley inside.

Submit guesses here in this thread as replies to this post.
The earliest post with all 5 correct players (and teams) is the winner.

I hope you are right B4L, I am tired of looking.

I had Willie Scott and Chucky Barnett... but I can't comeup with any more and I am tired.

Sorry if I made people spend a lot of time. I knew this would be a tough one.

Some good guesses, but so far, nobody has more than 2 correct.
Again, to clarify, this 5 man All NIT team does not include Mitchell Anderson. He was named MVP separate from these other 5. And to reward the good work so far, I'll confirm that Willie Scott of Bradley and Chucky Barnett of Oklahoma are 2 of the 5 correct answers. None of the other names mentioned are correct.
            A couple hints--
The 4 teams in the Final 4 of the 1982 NIT were Bradley, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Purdue, and the All NIT team comes from those 4 teams.
Willie Scott is the only Bradley player on the list of 5, and Chucky Barnett is the only Oklahoma player.
3 of the 5 players come from the 2 teams in the championship game, and 1 each from the 2 teams that got eliminated in the semifinals.

Here another piece of 1982 NIT trivia.--
From the year the NIT started, 1938, until 1981 the NIT always played a 3rd place game between the 2 losing teams in the semifinals. But in 1982 they changed that format, and eliminated the 3rd place game.

Here is a trivia question that's a little easier to look up-2 parts--
Tulsa won the 1981 NIT, but who won the 3rd place game in 1981, the year before Bradley was in the NIT?
And, who was the NIT MVP in 1981?

Prize: One set of 1992-1993 Bradley basketball cards (described above), and a "Pluck the Birds" rally towel.

Macabre Mob is the winner on this question. Purdue was the last team to win the 3rd place game in 1981, since it was discontinued after 1981. They made it to the championship game the next year but ran into Bradley and finished 2nd.
Greg Stewart of Tulsa was the MVP of the 1981 NIT.

Congratulations MM! Your prize is on the way.

                    shaunguth, you da man!

I don't know how you came up with it, but this is the correct answer. Even though Domonique Wilkins was on the Georgia team that made the NIT semifinals in 1982, he did not have a good game as Georgia lost a close one to Purdue. But his obscure teammate, Eric Marbury, made the All Tournament team.

Well....I seemed to be running around in circles trying to find any information at all on the subject! Wilkins definitely threw me off the trail for awhile.

                      Thanks for the opportunity!

They discontinued it for '82 and '83 then broght it back. 2003 then became the final year for the consolation (Texas Tech won it in '03).
