Texas A&M now needs a new coach--

Kentucky has locked in on Texas A&M coach Billy Gillispie as its top candidate to replace Tubby Smith.

Anyone else UK's search just felt a little wierd? I feel like they just threw money at the 'Hot' coaches rather than looking for someone who fit their programs, had ties to the area, and continued success. I know boosters, especially at a school like UK, want the 'Best Guy' which is often whoever the media deems so, but I just feel like their search didn't seem to take into consideration much other than who others thought were hot. IMO Billy D and Billy G are very different coaches and this underlines what I'm getting at.

Big 12 is losing some of its "prominent" coaches. Last year Sampson. This year Gillespie and Huggins. Their conference RPI could slip even further in 07'-08'!
Thus putting even more distance between The Big 12 and THE VALLEY!

In the last 5-10 year interval that the MVC lost many of its prominent coaches, it has risen in strength and prominence.

Billy's done a nice job turning TAMU around, but what experience outside of those few years at A&M does he have? Not sure if he's ready for a job like this. Sure, he's done a great job recruiting and turning around the Aggies, but in my opinion, any coach can have at least one good team.

PJ Star article about Billy Gillespie--

It will be interesting to see what happens at Texas A&M. Gillespie had a great recruiting class coming there for 2007.

Billy Gillespie's ability to recruit is highlighted in the article. This passage on his recruiting skill,

" 'Especially with us big guys, because he worked with the bigs," Griffin said. "You knew your man was going over his left shoulder this many times out of 10, all the stuff like that.' "

should make all Bradley fans excited about landing Anthony Thompson since A&M was giving him looks.

Now that Texas A&M needs a new coach, this writer speculates on who they might consider. He mentions SIU's Chris Lowery--
