This is a victory for the Valley. Imagine that, Dana giving up a job at an SEC school to stay at Creighton. Wow, my respect for the guy has doubled over the already high opinion I had of him. Good news, Lowery stays at SIU, Dana stays at Creighton.

If he ever decided to leave for another job (which I don't think will happen because of his decision to stay with Creighton), I don't think this one waffle will damage his reputation that much. But as has been said, Altman would not turn down a job at a school with the basketball prestige like Arkansas has without knowing that he would most likely will stay for the remainder of his career at Creighton. In other words, no one should worry about how he handled this whole episode as long as he and his family are ultimately happy with his decision to stay.

That makes Barry Hinson the "Dean of MVC coaches".
But Barry could at least live with the fact that he was the "Dean" for a day!

Dana is still the dean. What if he took a leave of absence? He miss any games or practices, he had a moment of indecision and came back to where his heart was. This happens with married couples from time to time, but they don't declare their marriage 'over', just a rocky time that they overcame. I see this as Dana having a moment of doubt, and coming to the RIGHT decision.
Great day for the MVC - the top 5 coaches remain intact, keeping the league strong as ever. Next year may be a slightly 'down' year, but with our top coaches returning, it won't last long. Power conferences retain their top coaches...we are a power conference! The proof is in the pudding!Onward and Upward!

These articles suggest he was hired as the Arkansas coach for 1 day, then quit to return to Creighton to resume the job there.

I'm sure Dana will be expecting a check.

And to address another item that has been harped moreso on the 'other' board than here, but that is the question of professionalism. IMO, from what I have heard, Dana did not do anything unprofessional in having a change of heart. Now, obviously I don't know all of the details, but as long as it was handled respectfully, and in an honest, face-to-face manner, there was no wrongdoing. If anything, Arkansas perhaps may have rushed a bit in making the announcement and holding the press conference. I have friends and colleagues in several lines of work who have accepted jobs and then had second thoughts. What would have been less professional would have been for Dana to take the job, and in a month come to this conclusion. In a business where coaches can lose their jobs at the drop of a hat, I don't think there's anything wrong with the way Dana went about things the past couple of days.Onward and Upward!
