  • Dwight Buycks

Dwight Buycks picked up another honor as he was named to the first team All Area by the Milwaukee Journal Star.

Here is a video clip of each player. Buycks is the 2nd player profiles after Diante Garrett (area Player of the Year) introduces himself--

Another kid who was a Bradley recruit, James Haarsma, is also on the team, and looks pretty good on those highlight.

When they showed Buycks saying his name he looked a little like Cello Robinson.

I really hope Dwight ends up here, but that is at the expense of MR or a current player/recruit right? Since we only have one scholarship open for next year and Cole-Scott is taking his this year. Would we rather have Roth or Buycks? (I'd take both if I had a choice).

If I had to choose I'd take Buycks.

I think I agree, he can do more things. But Roth if your reading I still want ya!

I think we would take both if them and Xavier would be the odd man out.

I think many here would disagree. They really like the Yuba boys(lawrence wright, zach andrews), and XC is a big man.

It's really hard to say what will happen between now and then. Scholarships could open up for unforeseen reasons, and who's to say XC really will want to come here after he's done at Yuba. We'll just have to see how things are shaping up.

I like Roth's pure shooting ability and I think every team needs a pure shooter type of player... and by almost all accounts Roth is not one-dimensional or anthing.

It's just that Buycks sounds like a pretty special player, so I think that's why I'd pick him if I had to.

I agree with everything you've said. I really hope we can keep ahold of Buycks. He's the type of recruit that can take this program to the next level, him and SamM (I really think Sams gonna do big things).

Whoa! Hold on a second! This isn't a McDonald's All-American we're talking about here. Sure, he might have gotten a few minutes next year, but let's be realistic. DB is a good player and the coaches were excited to get him, but I don't think they thought he would be the guy that would 'take us to the next level', whatever that level is (Elite 8? ). If he ends up being that kind of player, well then that will be just awesome. I think that's hard to project though.

I'm very excited about what Sam can eventually do as well. He'll have a year to really learn the DI game behind Ruffin and Cole-Scott, and should be ready to step in and really contribute by the time he's a sophomore (or redshirt freshman).

I would say the next level is where SIU is now, they compete for the MVC championship every year and really are the class of the valley(along with CU). I think guys like DB and SamM ARE the recruits they will get us there. Look at how highly touted JC or DRuff, or Will Franklin or Boogie were and where they have taken us. So I stand by my statement that recruits like SamM and DB will take us there.

Ok, that makes more sense when you put it in that context. I agree, guys like the players we're getting should be able to take us back to an MVC title. Let's hope that they do, it's been a while since we've cut down the nets!

I tend to agree - the bar has been risen as to the class of recruits we are getting (at least on paper - ala, the number of stars given them by the recruiting sites). So in turn, you would hope that it results in a more consistent and higher level of play. No offense to JC, but when he was recruited many thought he was brought on to be a role player. I even remember some comments from another board that said that he should be a walk-on, not a scholarship player. Ruffin is awesome and many Peorians knew he was talented, but he really wasn't highly touted either. Not to mention JJ, who many questioned throughout his career because he came from the smallest school class in Missouri and then because what he brought to the table didn't produce a great stat line.

I guess I'm trying to say this BU staff has shown an ability to scout talent and find it consistently, so I think it's safe to assume the two & three star recruits they are getting now should take BU to another level.

So, Please DB, go get the grades and come play some ball @ BU!!

I for one have been waiting years to go out on the court in ST.Louis and celebrate a Valley championship and I believe that moment is getting closer so lets get a good big man and make it happen.
