  • Bluejays land another juco guard

They must be expecting a couple players to leave, as they have their 2nd such player in two days.
    Yesterday it was Booker Woodfox

today it is Cavel Witter a 5-10 guard from Trinity Valley CC
    (listed elsewhere as 5-9)

    10.6ppg, 44%FG, 37% 3-pt, 2.8apg.

A scout article from 2006 says:
"A co-winner of the best trash talker award"

He is just a junior college freshman this season, but the talk on the Bluejay board seems to suggest he will sign in April and come to CU this fall.

So are they over their scholarships by 2 now DC?

And if this suggests people might be leaving, could one guess players may be leaving because the coach is leaving?

The Valley teams that didn't stock up on guards floundered this past season (UNI, WSU) and the ones that did stock up on guards like BU, SIU, and even ISU to some extent all did better this season.
Dana knows this so thus he is "desperately" stocking up, now that his #1 target, Tyrone Cole-Scott chose Bradley.
Plus....their PG of the future didn't do so well this season, Josh Dotzler. They ended up using Funk much of the time as PG, and it may have cost them to not have a healthy productive 1st line PG.

On another topic, Wichita had their awards ceremony last night.
It wasn't a dinner, just a completely free even in their arena and they gave awards. No dinner, no admission charge, and the attendance was 700.
Last night BU drew nearly 600 with a $25 charge per person!

But, then, the Shockers are coming off a pretty down year, and to show one significant thing that confirms how down of a year it was...

Don't you think they could have found SOMEONE on the team who qualified for the "Most Improved" award?
Surely someone on this year's team did better than last year, right?
NOPE..they couldn't find anyone on the entire team who showed improvement from 2005-06 to 2006-07!!
Instead they gave the award to their best freshman, Gal Mekel.
So how can an incoming freshman be "most improved"?
I guess all freshmen have improvement over their prior year!

The award should rollover to next year. Then maybe they could hand out 2 of them.

That's unreal that nobody had better numbers than last year.

Now Cavel Witter's juco coach is saying he has NOT yet committed to Creighton! (see 1st post in this thread)
          this is kind of strange...

I guess we'll ahve to wait and see.
Can't sign LOI's until April anyway!
          .
          .
          .
          .
          .

Rumor is that Witter wants to see what Altman does, and he IS a freshman and is eligible, but doesn't have to go where he may find the atmosphere changes suddenly.

Now it appears that the other Creighton recruit is also hedging
on his committment when asked by the guys at JucoJunction.com, and is taking a wait and see approach to find out what Altman does.
It only stands to reason that a kid doesn't want to commit and sign only to find the coach leave the next day!

So that's two new recruits on hold for now..........
