  • Another Rumored Recruiting Violation for Kelvin Sampson

On one of the scout/insider recruiting boards, it was noted that
someone called in to a radio call-in show in Champaign, IL
and talked about Eureka High School's Jordan Prosser.
(Prosser is one of Bradley's top targets for Class of 2009)
The caller then reported to know for a fact that Kelvin Sampson had called Jordan Prosser on the phone several times.
Of course this provokes a long series of responses from Illini fams on the message board, but if it true, then it is definitely a violation.

First, because Sampson is still under a restriction on phone calls
(until 5/24/07...he can make NO calls to recruits as part of his NCAA sanctions),
second because you cannot contact a kid who is just a sophomore.
There is also discussion that Sampson might be calling Iowa recruit Beas Hamga as well.

Nobody seems to have proof, but since when does the NCAA act even when the proof is blatantly obvious (as in the Reggie Bush cheating at USC)?

Probably one of those loony Illinois fans posing to start trouble.

The guy is known to be a cheat so nothing surprizes me as he seems to get away with violations all the time.

Kelvin Sanction/Sampson's one year penalty from the NCAA ENDS at midnight tonight.

His sanctions included prohibiting him from making any phone calls personally for one year and from making any off campus visits for a year.

"he cannot recruit off-campus or make any phone calls to recruits from May 25, 2006 to May 24, 2007."
The NCAA hampered first-year Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson's recruiting ability for the class of 2007 and '08 but stopped well short of taking him out of the recruiting process.

So, do you think he'll celebrate a sort-of Midnite Madness tonight?
At the stroke of midnight, Sampson will start a dialing frenzy, and head off campus to visit countless recruits........

He was barred from making phone calls, or so it seems, but I would believe there was some sort of loop hole that allowed him to be on a phone call. Maybe if he didnt dial, didnt orginate from his phone etc. The NCAA was not going to allow a BCS head coach no access verbally with recruits.
