Here are some really interesting rumors...

---That Kentucky is about to finalize a huge deal to hire Thad Matta away from Ohio State.
It is being reported on the premium Rivals board...and here is the text:

    Another Rumor......FWIW Reply

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    From NDNAtion.......

Seedy K. who writes for a rag in Louisville called the LEO reported that UK and Thad Matta have worked out a deal. I've pasted the actual report below. Although you have to take what this guy says with a large grain of salt, there have also been numerous ocassions when he actually seems to know something.

    Rumor & Innuendo

    The latest name I heard.
Talk about a rep on the line, check this out. Years ago I had a source advise that Barnhart would be UK???‚¬?„?s next AD, before his predecessor Larry Ivy was fired. I reported the eerily accurate info here. That same source called unsolicited Saturday morning. He teasingly asked if I wanted to know the next Kentucky coach? Duh! His words: ???‚¬?“The deal was struck last weekend in Lexington during the sub-regional. Thad Matta will be UK???‚¬?„?s next coach.???‚¬?? Makes no sense. Hey, I???‚¬?„?m just the messenger. The rep on the line is that of my three-time SOY (Source of the Year).

Reggie Theus is about to parlay his one year of success at New Mexico State into a HUGE payday.
New Mexico State can't afford to pay Theus much more than mid-major salary, but Theus seems to be positioning himself to take one of the BIG offers out there such as Arkansas or Iowa.
New Mexico State men's basketball coach Reggie Theus says he likes the Aggie program, but that he'd like to be paid what he thinks he's worth.

    ******************************

Michigan has reportedly narrowed its finalists to just three, JohnBeilein (from West Virginia), Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings, and Chris Lowery.
They also supposedly have a "B" list and it may include Reggie Theus and Washington State's Tony Bennett.
Tommy Amaker seems to be a prospect for the job at Harvard.

Steve Alford has been talking to his friend Dan Dakich (recently fired head coach of Bowling Green)
about being assistant on Alford's staff at New Mexico.

And one Iowa media source is reporting that Iowa is working out the finalities and will hire Rick Majerus.

If true, this is ridiculous, really a loss of perspective. Is the academic picture at the University of Kentucky so stellar that they have this type of money to try and lure a coach? BD is a great coach, but he's not the only one. 3 million could buy a lot of books or fund a lot of scholarships.

As much as I believe in student-athletes, that is NOT ridiculous. How much money do you think the school brings in if they have good basketball team(read: NEED a good coach), how upset do potential donors get at a program like UK if they have a bad basketball team. Kentucky's reason for hiring a good coach is a very smart business decision. Even Bradley is seeing great dividends as far as donations with the success of the basketball team. I understand it seems ridiculous to pay a coach that much, but that is what they are worth to a program as far as revenue, in donations, tickets, and TV deals.

This article says Arkansas now focuses on five candidates:
                John Calipari
                Rick Majerus
                Mike Montgomery
                Jamie Dixon
                Bruce Weber

                and their "B" list contains:
                Dana Altman
                Mark Turgeon
                Scott Sutton
                Gregg Marshall
                Chris Lowery
                Anthony Grant
                Reggie Theus
                Sean Sutton

This article believes a new coach will be announced today--

After interviewing Altman and Calipari in Atlanta, Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles, who is conducting the search, returned to Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday.

"It???‚¬?„?s unlikely that Broyles would have returned if he did not have an agreement in principle with a coach or was on the verge of finalizing a deal."
