  • BU recruit- class of 2008- Brett Thompson

A New Rivals article this morning about Vienna, IL 's Brett Thompson says
Bradley has offered and is in the kid's top choices.

"Three-star center Brett Thompson is pushing 7-feet, and the skilled big man from Vienna (Ill.) High School is racking up high-major offers.

Purdue, Indiana, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Missouri State, Southern Illinois and Bradley have all offered the 6-foot-11, 265-pound Thompson

"Brett has 12 offers on the table right now," said Coach Metcalf.

8 BLOCKS! I'm assuming most of that is because he's 7 foot playing against much smaller competition. But if he could get a quarter of the in college that'd be amazing!

Fine with me as I like a 7 footer that doesn't think he is a guard.

New Scout article says Brett Thompson has trimmed his list down to 4- Alabama, Iowa State, Indiana, and St. Louis. He just eliminated Purdue and Notre Dame, and previously eliminated Bradley, Illinois, and SIU.

"Brett Thompson, ranked No. 79 in the nation, is headed to St. Louis after considering Iowa State, Alabama and Indiana.

We got tight with Porter Moser because we went to Illinois State for an unofficial visit way back when. He got the job at St. Louis and Porter was real truthful.

Moser began forming his relationship with Thompson when he was the head coach at Illinois State. That relationship paid off under his new employer and now the Billikens own a commitment from a highly regarded insider."

So PM is recruiting better at SLU than at ISU??

Not suprising. SLU is a better school and a better basketball school.

so why do you suppose he dropped BU, or did Les simply stop recruiting him?

That's a good question, and info on recruiting is always the best kept secret, so we will likely never know.
But the very first mention that BU was even interested in Thompson, also notes that he was strong towards Saint Louis, and it appears he has always been leaning towards SLU.
The fact that the new coach there has done well recruitng big guys who end up in the NBA probably doesn't hurt.

My guess is that our coaching staff knew of his preferences and didn't spend a whole lot of resources and time recruiting the kid if he wasn't much interested in BU.
Why, tell us what you know about the kid? Was he considering ISU?

In this article he says it was the coach that determined his decision--

In interviews on other recruiting sites, he has said the proximity of St. Louis to his hometown played a big part.
