Here is what was said by Russell Robinson , Sherron Collins, and Mario Chalmers--
"Russell,'' Collins said. "Do you think we're the best set of guards in the country?''
"Oh, yeah,'' Robinson said. "By far.''
And if that didn't rate as good bulletin board material for the Salukis, Robinson took it one step further when discussing the days he was recruited by some Missouri Valley Conference schools, among others.
"When you get letters from Kentucky, Kansas, Georgia Tech, I didn't even look at those (MVC) schools,'' he said. "I saw Southern Illinois and all those and said, 'Nah.' ''
Apparently, Robinson saw himself on a bigger stage. Now he and his backcourt mates will share that stage with SIUC. The four guards have been critical to the Jayhawks' success.
At this point, it might be hard to argue with Chalmers' analysis of the Jayhawks' guard play.
"We get down on ourselves,'' he said. "But I don't think we have any weaknesses.''

Wow, if I didn't already hate Kansas I would now, I really hope SIU knocks them off, I would be so happy. How does Self let his players say stuff like that. I really hope SIU makes them eat crow, err... Jayhawk(whatever that is).

Not to insult the Saluki fans, because I am pulling for them tomorrow, but isn't this what all the kids who are 4-star and 5-star recruits do? They get thousands of recruiting letters, they have to trim them down a little. So the usual first step is to discard all the non-major schools, and just favor a few top-50 types of schools.
So even though Russell Robinson should have kep his mouth shut, he was just telling the truth. He, and Chalmers, and Rush might have gotten letters from SIU and even Bradley, but I'll bet he never spent much time reading them and quickly threw them away.

This just shows the handicap the mid-majors have to work against. Right from the start they get the lesser recruits and the "projects". In the case of Tatum and Falker the projects have turned out pretty good.
