  • Iowa State Player in Trouble AGAIN!

Iowa State basketball player Mike Taylor has been suspended indefinitely from the team after being arrested Monday night for fourth-degree criminal mischief.

This is not the first time Taylor has been suspended, as he had a little run-in with the law last October, but Coach Greg McDermott needed his scoring punch badly enough that after announcing an indefinite suspension of Taylor, he reactivated him immedaitely after a single exhibition game.

BUT READ THAT LINK ABOVE CLOSELY!!
Notice that the incident and arrest occurred on February 4, 2007!!!

    You've got to be kidding!!
All this happened MORE than six weeks ago...and the info on it and the kid's suspension are ONLY NOW being noted in the press.
Why wasn't the kid suspended for the end of the season and the Big XII Tournament....oh...never mind... I think I know.
Of course it's because Taylor IS Greg McDermott's leading scorer. You don't think the fact that he's the team's leading scorer had anything to do with the soft treatment and the institution of a "suspension" only after the season is over?
    Naw.....

Also, Iowa State had three other players get arrested and thrown off the team for getting drunk and assaults right before McDermott got there.
Between them and all the legal and criminal issues at Iowa, I can't tell who has the worse discipline problem.
But the way this is being handled by Iowa State and the coach is ridiculous and shows they treat their "starts" with kid gloves, and pamper them. any bets as to whether this has actually learned any lessons? Of course not, except that he is only going to be suspended for off season time and exhibitions no matter how much trouble he causes.

I'm glad about this. I always thought McDermott was a pr**k and if he fails at Iowa St, I'll be pleased.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

      Let me get this straight.
The article says the incident took place Feb. 4, and the kid was not disciplined in any way even though the staff knew this was coming.
Then after the kid completes all the games he has for the season, and the season's over, then and only then is he arrested and also suspended from the team,
and this happens after a nearly 7 week delay?
And the suspension is for the time period that the team has no official practices or activites anyway?
      What a joke.
"Taylor played nine games after the incident as Iowa State police investigated and consulted with the Story County Attorney's office, according to Deisinger."
I guess this is typical player-discipline when you are the team's leading scorer.

By the way, this isn't Taylor's first legal problems since he became Greg McDermott's first recruit at Iowa State.
It wasn't very well publicized, but just as he got to campus, he had a DUI and a 6-month license suspension, after a guilty judgement 10/09/06.
In addition, Taylor also was suspended for one exhibition game early in the season for other unrelated team-rules violations, but was never disciplined whatsoever for the DUI by McDermott.
So this event actully constitutes his 3rd rules violation.

One other issue for McD to deal with,
their starting point guard, junior Corey McIntosh is leaving.
Must be something pretty urgent, as McIntosh has already used his redshirt year, and so will have to go to D-II in order to play the one remaining season he has.
Iowa State ended up 15-16, after a 5-1 start.

But haven't we seen that this is exactly how justice is enforced upon college jocks.
We've seen it at Cincy and K-State under Bob Huggins, at New Mexico under Ritchie McKay, and at UIUC, and recently at Tennessee under Bruce Pearl, and at Mississippi State just before the Bradley game.

Speaking of Tennessee, Bruce Pearl just dismissed another one of his misbehaving players, but don't start thinking he is suddenly a tough guy on discipline, and here's why.
The dismissal came only after the kid had committed violations of team rules and state and federal LAWS numerous times.
The kid should have been gone over a year ago.
Anthony Passley, who left UW-M when Pearl moved to Tennessee, then went to Tennessee to play for Pearl.
He's finally been kicked off the team, but his brother, Cordell Passley who plays in Indianapolis for ex-BU'er Billy Wright is still committed to Tennessee, so you gotta wonder.
Passley has had drug violations, traffic issues, team disciplines and suspensions, and other issues, but I guess Bruce can finally afford to let him go now that he has a stable of decent recruits.

Sounds like he would fit in just fine at UIUC.

              Here's more about Tennessee's Passley

"Tony Passley, who did not play in the Volunteers' final 13 games, has been dismissed from the team for the ever-popular ???‚¬?“violation of team rules.???‚¬??

Passley is the fifth player to prematurely leave the UT program in the past two years. Pearl dismissed two post players ???‚¬??? Jemere Hendrix in Year 1 and Major Wingate in Year 2 ???‚¬??? for rules violations. Another post player, Damion Harris, departed before the 2006-07 season began. Combo guard Marques Johnson elected to transfer when he dropped out of the playing rotation four games into the '06-07 season.

Cordell Passley, Tony's younger brother, committed in May of 2005 to join the Vols in 2008. How his sibling's dismissal will affect that commitment remains to be seen."

                This question has been answered....
Cordell Passley, a very talented 6-2 PG/SG has now de-committed from Tennessee, just as soon as Bruce Pearl kicked his older brother off the team.
Cordell Passley is Class of 2008 (a junior), and plays for Billy Wright at Indianapolis Pike HS.

McIntosh is going to attend Augustana, a D-2 program in South Dakota (not to be confused with D-3 Augustana in Illinois).

His initial reason for leaving ISU was to be closer to home.....not sure if Sioux Falls, SD is a lot closer to LA than Ames is
