So it appears the fix was in.
Sheahon Zenger and Jankovich have ties at K-State that go back many years.
It is clear this is the guy AD Zenger wanted all along, and that the phony,
token posturing by calling the Black Coaches Assoc. was just a charade.
Were there any other candidate considered?
Was any minority candidate even considered or interviewed?
It appears not, and I wonder where is the outrage that we saw when Bradley made its hire in 2002?
Will we see newspaper columns blasting ISU for not hiring Wayne McClain?

PS-- In Bill Liesse's article, he reiterates that as of yesterday, Wayne McClain had not even been contacted about the ISU coaching position.
So did Zenger make any effort to interview anyone besides his hand picked guy?
          Does that bother anyone?

            Thanks Bert.

I am also saying Illini fans believe Self is cheating in the present day.

Sure as hell doesn't bother me. I was hoping for a bigger name, but I'd much rather have Jankovich than McClain by far. His resume' is far stronger than McClain's.

Plus, the BU and ISU situations are totally different in regards to McClain. McClain is a BU alum (I know about the master's at ISU), a Peoria native and BU was his 'dream job' supposedly.

Here's a thought? If McClain was interested, why not contact Zenger himself? Nothing against the rules there.

Tim Jankovich was 10-16 in his forth year at North Texas and resigned with three years left on his contract. The new coach inherited no players over 6'6".

Unless things have changed since I was around (grew up in Peoria and "lived" Bradley basketball until moving in 1990)....................

ISU fans do not have near the passion as BU fans. Bloom/Normal is more of a transient community as far as students and basketball fans go and has never had the "small town" "basketball is everything" attitude that Peoria has.

The reality of this situation (IMO) is that the majority of people in B/N and the "fans" really don't care/aren't interested unless the team is winning. When ISU wins they care and show up (a jump on the bandwagon mentality). When they're just an average (or worse) team nobody seems to care.

In Peoria Bradley basketball rules (year 'round). When I think of Peoria I think of two things: Caterpillar, and Bradley basketball. When I think of Bloom/Normal I think of................State Farm?

(Don't take offense ISU fans. This is just my take; correct me if I'm wrong )

You make some interesting generalizations. I think everyone loves a winner and I'd question the passion of BU fans during the last couple Molinari years as well as the 1st couple Les years. I don't think they were breaking turnstiles in those days either. I could argue BU has 'bandwagon' fans also and I'd be wrong to say that.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that you guys set an attendance record the year after you went to a Sweet 16. People will follow a winner and that's not exclusive to ISU. The Redbird football team had 2 sellouts and an average of nearly 13,000 per home game. They also made the playoffs. That's not a coincidence.

The fans are there, they are just tired of the losing of the last 7-8 years. If that's bandwagon to you, then I guess it is. I can attest to the Redbird fans being starved for a winner and if Jankovich turns things around, you'll see Redbird basketball become in demand again.

Mac....I could recruit kids to KU.
DRU.....you could recruit kids to the local watering hole (i.e. Gorman's).

I hope you're right, Danny. Many BU faithful would love to see the ISU-BU rivalry become the "war" that it once was.....

To me the guy is coming in with no room for error.

Bare minimum is getting out of the playin game....if that doesn't happen, and I don't think it will be as easy as some think...look out.
I know you directed this at Cooksey, but I'll chime in too.

Assuming (hoping and praying) we keep everyone, then we will have the pieces in place for a good year. We will have a good amount of talent and experience, and can hopefully add another couple good players with our remaining 2 schollies. I agree, getting out of the play-in round is a must. We almost got out of it this year but oh well.

If we retain everyone on the roster and finish .500, I would be rather dissapointed. There is a chance for us to have a strong year next year, but like Cooksey aluded to, we must concentrate on keeping our roster intact. If we do, then thats a good first step. Time will tell on this hire, but again the potential exists for immediate success IMHO.
No problem and thanks for chiming in.....I think expectations are high from ISU fans. Thats got to be tough for a first year coach. I get the feeling, as you kind of indicated, that there is a MINIMUM standard of no play-in game.

Assuming UE,DU,InSU stay at the bottom ISU will have to leap past BU,CU,SIU,WSU,MS or UNI. Lots of assumptions but really no easy task.

No doubt. he has his work cut out for him. Assuming the current roster remains in tact, he will have some pieces to compete for next year. After that, he loses a bunch. I think we'll know very soon whether this was the right move or not.

True. No team or game in the Valley is "easy". That said we were close to being in the thick of things this past season. We found new ways to piss away games we should've won. Had we not done that, we wouldve been right there. Hopefully this new coaching staff is the fresh start that we need to get over the hump. Like I said, if everyone stays, and we get another couple good players with our remaining schollies, then we will have the team in place to be good. If the new staff can then develop a good system around these players' abilities (like you guys did), then we'll be right there.
