Northern Illinois has scheduled a press conference to announce the hiring of a new basketball coach to replace fired coach Rob Judson. They are not saying publically who it is.
But, the rumor that is out is that they will hire Ricardo Patton.
He just left tthe position as the coach of Colorado after 11 years there. Patton was 3-13 in the Big 12, and 7-20 overall this season.
That's a bit ironic. Rob Judson was 4-12 in the MAC and 7-23 overall.
A couple more rumors that have gained strength--
Minnesota is still looking for a replacement for Dan Monson, though Jim Molinari has a lot of support among some boosters there. However, his name has not surfaced as an actual candidate for the job. But Minnesota could be waiting for UNLV to be eliminated from the NCAA tournament. They might be interested in hiring Lon Kruger. Kruger might then be likely to retain Jim Molinari as an assistant. They are close friends from their playing days at Kansas State.
And Colorado, with a coaching vacancy after Patton's leaving, may be courting Jeff Bzdelik, the successful coach of Air Force, and a former head coach of the Denver Nuggets.
And New Mexico appears to be zeroing in on Gregg Marshall of Winthrop (who has several other schools courting him), Chris Lowery (who's team is still playing and will also have a number of other suitors, and Steve Alford (who apparently is interested in getting out of Iowa, and the boosters are holding the door open for him).--
