  • UNLV beats Wisconsin

The runnin' rebs lead by 3 with about :30 to go. I hope they pull it off, just out of loyalty to Lon Kruger. He did a hell of a lot for U of I, especially in recruiting all those great players from Peoria.

Lon can coach, but unlike Bruce Weber, he can recruit.
He will definitely get a few $1.5-2 million offers in the very near future.

UNLV in the sweet 16 reminds me of the good ole days way back when that one bald coach was there. Can't remember his name but its the one that would always put the towel in his mouth.

haha, there he is. Loved watching his teams back in the day. Looking pretty tough this year also. If they can beat WI, they can beat anyone. Next weekend should be some awesome games.

UNLV is a midmajor by most definitions, so I'm rooting for them. Also had a heckuva good time watching that game against Wisky.

Also, thanks for the picture of Yoda... err, I mean Tarkanian there DaCoach.

Here's a great prediction about Wisconsin losing.
After Wisconsin eliminated his team in the first round of the Midwest Regional on Friday, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi coach Ronnie Arrow was adamant: The second-seeded Badgers will lose to UNLV.

Can hardly deny that Wisconsin is a good team, just not a great team.
The Big Ten had an awful lot of bad teams this year and the top feeders cleaned up on the bottom feeders.
In addition, too many of Wisconsin's games were by close margins to call this an outstanding team.
They escaped at home against Winthrop (OT), OSU, MSU and others, and their only road wins in the Big Ten were Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Penn State.
Then the close call against Texas A&M-CC and the loss to UNLV convince me they were lucky to do as well as they did.

Looks like Wisconsin was "victimized by an evil jinx".--

Most sports fans have heard about the Sports Illustrated cover jinx. It has been well-documented and its effects have been lamented by frustrated fans for decades. But, what about the ESPN All-Access / Shelley Smith jinx?

I think I agree with your definition of UNLV as a "mid-major"................However, would we have considered them as a BCS "major" back when they were a powerhouse? And, if so, then that changes my pre-conceived definition of what makes a "mid-major" versus a "major".

I kind of think that there should be four tiers of teams... BCS let's call them "Power", Major (MVC, CAA, MWC, maybe A10 or CUSA) Midmajor (or some name, Horizon, WAC, etc) and then minor conferences (the cupcakes, OVC, MEAC, Atlantic Sun)...
