4.0 GPA and offers from "DePaul, Dayton, Southern Illinois and Bradley and has heard from dozens more."

There's another NEW premium article this morning on Nick Freundt and his Illinois Wolves.

The only relevant comments centered on Nick's recruiting.

It suggests he might have been close to a decision then he was advised by his AAU coach, Mike Mullins, to wait until all the coachnig changes are done and then finish out the AAU season.

Of Freundt's choices Michigan and ISU just changed coaches, and the possibility still exists that others like Chris Lowery still might be hired somewhere else.

Bradley is still listed prominently as one of the 5 schools that have already offered (along with DePaul, Dayton, ISU, and SIU).

Sure is nice of Mike Mullins to be thinking of Fruendt's better interests isn't it? I mean his advice couldn't possibly have anything to do with him steering the kid to say.......SIU where his son Brian is the starting PG, could it?

I mean I'm sure his input on Carlton Fay, another ex-Illinois Wolves player, had nothing to do with Fay choosing SIU could it?

This is more of a rant against the AAU system than it is to Mike Mullins specifically. I think it's a real shame that AAU coaches have this big of an influence over their players. Seemingly more influence that the kid's parents or highschool coach. I know that's the way it is these days, but I think it's wrong.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

There certainly is no denying that the kids are strongly guided in many cases by AAU people and even the high school coaches, especially in Chicago.
Wasn't there even some word that OE was getting some pressure from certain sources to open his recruiting back up after he chose ISU?

Couldn't agree more about the AAU stuff, Danny.

If MM were really trying to steer NF to SIU, wouldn't he have already declared his intentions to enroll there???

I suspect NF has his sights set on BCS fish, rather than the schools who have already shown an interest or made an offer.

What year is NF? Won't Mullins be gone by the time NF would have any impact at SIU?

No i think that was more a case of a couple Valley coaches who paid OE a visit at Phillips HS after he announced for ISU and tried to change his mind. Perhaps it was some AAU influence, but most of that were a couple highly respected Valley coaches not named Jim Les

Fruendt is a senior this coming season. he could play 1 year with Bryan Mullins. Mike Mullins seems to be a recruiter for Lowery though. I have heard that SIU will be a major player for Bertrand in '09, even though he has high-major written all over him.

Bertrand is a Wolves player right now and I'm sure Mike Mullins is constantly in his ear. Must be nice for SIU.

Thats what I thought....he won't be there early enough to really have much impact as far as his kid goes. And if MM is sending him and others SIU's way it makes you wonder of his motivation to do so.

Mullins is on the up and up. Lets not forget that Sam M. played for the Wolves. He is one of the AAU coaches that truly wants the best for the players that play for him. From what I have heard, the ony help he gives SIU is alerting them to possible players that would fit their "style"(if you want to call it that) at an early time in the recruitment so that they can remind the player that they were the "first to recruit them". Having looked at the 16U Wolves roster, I noticed 4 names that are currently top 30 players that I would imagine will move up and hope we are recruiting. Bertrand(6-3 G-Sterling), Krautwig(6-6 W-Jacobs), Bryant(6-4 W-Batavia), and Ahlers(6-6 F-Putnam Co). Two of these are more local to Peoria and I would like to see them at BU instead of SIU.

Danny, this premium article on the Blue Demons site, talkes quite a bit about several of the Illinois Wolves players, and dwells on Freundt, Daniel Barnes, John Shurna, Jacob Moran, Rob Belcore, Tyler Thompson, and even talks a little about some of the players they don't have any more such as Bryan Mullins and Iman Shumpert.

But in all this they don't mention Joseph Bertrand even once.
Is it possible Bertrand isn't playing this summer with the Wolves?
