Peoria to Starkville and back

We just passed St. Louis and are about 3 hours into the trek to Starkville. Here is a picture as we flew by St. Louis--
I suspect most of you have seen the Arch before--



Only about 6 more hours of driving. We should get to Memphis in time to grab some BBQ for supper.
Maybe we can catch the last tour of Graceland!

The broadband coverage is better than I thought it would be. Once you get a few miles south of St. Louis it gets pretty remote, and I have lost the broadband signal a couple times. But it keeps coming back. So I am able to follow the games.

Gee Coach--- don't you think you should just drive, instead of taking pictures and manning the wireless internet on your lap?

I have driven that stretch going across the river into St. Louis many times and it is an accident waiting to happen!

We'll we didn't actually cross the river into St Louis. We took I-255 south and took the pictures from the Ilinois side just south of the city.

And, in case anyone thinks I am crazy, I am not driving. My chauffeur is at the wheel so I can watch the games.

No, we get lousy mileage and burn the high-priced premium gas in our environmental unfriendly SUV.

Just pulling into Starkville. About a 9 hour drive. The weather is nice down here. It was 60 degrees when we got past Memphis, but now that the sun's down it's cooled to about 50 degrees.
Starkville is a town of about 22,000 in the middle of nowhere.

Gotta go check into the Comfort Inn and Suites. It's about the swankiest hotel in town. I'll let you know if we see the team.

just got into MS took us about 11 hours (took a charter bus) we're still about 45 mins outside of starkville we're leaving at 7am to send the team off around 9 i believe looking forward to an great game

Well, it was a great trip, but might have been a little better except for 1 small detail.
But on the way back we stopped in Memphis and had some great barbeque. I didn't realize St. Patrick's Day was such a big deal in Memphis. They had Beale St. blocked off and there was a huge parade and celebration. It reminded me of New Orleans at Mardi Gras. We're back on the road and approaching Illinois.

Actually, St. Patty's is pretty big in a few places in the south. Jackson, MS...the last time i heard, though could be wrong...has the 4th largest St. Patty's day Parade in the Nation. I don't know about today, but last year there was 40,000 people there when it was bad weather. There are floats from all over the country that participate. Here's an excert from this year...

It is estimated that nearly 50,000 people gathered downtown for the parade.
