I've seen several BU games this year and I'm not sure if it's just me or does anyone else feel that JL is very adept at putting new wrinkles into his gameplan for each opponent? I'd be interested in others observations.

Last night he changed his offensive attack around to have a post player take the ball at or near the free throw line and they had the option to penetrate, pass to the low post or to one of three perimeter shooters. But the thing that amazed me was the change in the OT when he had the post (Salley) screening the mid-defender in the zone to give Will open shots from 8' away directly in front of the rim on two possessions.

Jimmy and his staff have, in general, been the picture of game-planners. Execution, well, sometimes that's where we falter. I saw several things last night I hadn't seen before (and if I hadn't shaken my brain loose last night with all the jumping up and down, I could probably tell you what they were).

The Provi board was offering us coaching trades last night. Props to whomever BradELee was for fending them off mightily.

It's been said that coaching at the college level has 3 main parts--
recruiting, game preparation, and in-game coaching. I don't want to simplify things to much, and I know there is a lot more than just these 3, but they seem like the 3 major areas. Jim and the staff have become very skilled at all 3.

Even the players now recognize things in the opponent's defense and make quick adjustments (like the opening attempt at an alley-oop pass to Tauai- that is usually available if your opponent switches into a 2-3 zone). And the team figured out the "soft spot" of the zone late in the game and got a lot of points from the short 12-15 foot shots. IMO the team is very well coached, and the players are smart and good at thinking on their feet while the game is in progress.

Yeah, those two screens by Salley for Will were great! I loved it. But yeah, it seems like the coaching staff does a fairly good job gameplanning, and of course in game changes. I was frustrated when we had Creighton home though, we just didn't change it up soon enough and were too far behind before we switched.
