  • Slippery Floor at Civic Center

Last night, it was warm in the Civic Center and it was obvious that condensation was forming on the court. Players kept slipping. I thought Will Franklin was going to turn his ankle when he fell down in the second half. I know the Civic Center is spending 55 million in renovations. Does anyone know if this condensation problem is going to be taken care of when the construction is complete? I hope it doesn't take a serious injury to a player before it gets addressed.

I hope I live to see the day BU leaves that place and goes back to the hilltop. Watching the Washington Richwoods game last week sure bought back some good memories.

The last time Will slipped was because the CC crew missed the wet spot created when JC went down a moment earlier. I was in upper bowl and we all saw the wet mark and once Will went through lane he slipped...

You would think science could offer a solution. If it is a known issue and someone, say a player looking at a lucrative pro contract, were to be injured, could negligence be proven?

Good point. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and it's frustrating to think of all the milliions of taxpayer dollars spent and something so basic hasn't been addressed.

It is a commn problem in all arenas with ice under the floor, I would think people would have found a way to fix it. The Bradley Engineers can probably find a solution

I knew it would be a problem when I walked in the arena and it was warm. The last couple of years, they've turn up the ac on the warm days. They didn't last night and you could see the results.

I definitely agree however i think it needs to be someone with an understanding of what is desired in a basketball court. Myself I have no idea what makes a good court vs. bad court, or what makes 'dead' spots and such, without that knowledge it would be very difficult to do.

Just wondering but the Rivermen dont play at home again until Sunday, wouldnt it make sense to just melt the ice and without ice under the court there probably would not be any condensation.

It would cost too much to melt the ice; I was really mad when Will fell down as it was an important possession and that should never happen; it could have injured him severly and cost us the game; the Scotttrade center has ice under their floor and they never seem to have any problems with players slipping ; I have said this before that someone from the civic center needs to go down and see how they keep from having these problems because the temperature in St.Louis is hotter .

AGAIN.. When WIll went down it was on a wet spot from JC a minute earlier which didn't get wiped up... NOT FROM ice condensation....

That one may have been a wet spot from JC (that seems like a bit of a strange sentence ), BUT our players were slipping and sliding all night, so there really is a problem.

The high school class A tour. had problems last weekend and I recall the announcers wondering if the floor had too much wax on it; it was the first time I can rember the state tour. having those kind of problems.
