It seems like the conference tourneys played a bigger part this year than previously. At least the head of the selection group kept referencing that. Also found it interesting that there were over 100 teams with 20 wins this year....30 more than last year.

If the conference tournament importance was true, why did Stanford get a bid? The lost their 1st round conference tourney game. What about Georgia Tech? They lost their 1st round conference tournament game as well. It's just another example of the committee's inconsistency and hypocrisy.

        Payback is a ...............

I think the selection of two Valley teams had a lot to do with "payback" from last year's and this year's perceived b itching and moaning by Valley members and fans about the Valley being a BCS Conference and how we are better than everyone else.

Cal--- you shouldn't be so upset....just think of the poor Big XII!

Just imagine...their conference was ranked 7th....ahead of the Mountain West and WAC, and yet the poor folks of the Big XII
only got FOUR teams in the NCAA and they are whining to beat the band
about Kansas State and Oklahoma State being left out!

And of their four teams, one is a #1 seed, and all four are seeded in the top-4!

here indeed is the first of I suspect many stories by the Big XII writers
about how badly they got screwed!!

Over 100, 20 Game Winners WOW!!!!!!!

My question is if the NCAA Planning commisioner stressed that there were over 100 20 game winners this year than the 78 last year, how did Stanford get in with only 18 games and no championship win????? Please tell me..........

And, if you read the bracketology sites and listened to the commentary on TV, we weren't realistically on the bubble.

When are we going to do away with the RPI? It seems like it's such a point of emphasis throughout the season, and it just goes out the window when a few major conference bubble teams win a quarterfinal game in their conference tournament.
Are you saying that we didn't deserve to be on the bubble, or are you just reiterating the lack of talk about BU being a legit bubble team?

Here is a little snippet from CBS Sportsline.

                      2. People talk about how having a high RPI can protect you, but it really only protects BCS schools. This year the top four RPIs omitted from the field were Air Force (30), Missouri State (36), Bradley (38 ) and Drexel (39). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. Last year the top three RPIs omitted were Missouri State (21), Hofstra (30) and Creighton (39). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. Two years ago the top three RPIs omitted were Miami of Ohio (39), Wichita State (45) and Buffalo (46). Non-BCS schools, every one of them. And if you want to call that a coincidence, I want to call you an idiot.

It just shows you that college BB postseason is basically "rigged" for teams that draw big crowds of viewers which=big money. The media represents this well, they expicitly did not want a world series in the midwest last year because they thought the ratings would be lower. So they tried to hype up the Mets over the Cardinals.

Money is the reason that the BCS schools come up with all the bids.

There should just be a automatic system that selects the teams for the NCAA. I don't care how they do it if they eliminate the subjective way the selections are made. Why a commitee? Just go straight RPI or SOS and record, or just have an automatic # of bids go to each conference, or heck, just have a huge tournament with every Div I BB team with a winning record play each other and just have the commitee decide what the seeds are. I don't know, there has to be some solution to the problem of all the teams that think they get snubbed every year.

I don't know this for sure, but would be interested to see if the big school vs. big school theory is flawed. Almost everyone watches most first round games and I know that if an underdog (like BU last year) is beating a big time team (Kansas), it makes me want to watch their next game. I'd like to think that there was a greater viewership for BU-Pitt than there would have been for Kansas-Pitt had they won. I just think most people like to see David slay Goliath. The round of 32 & the sweet 16 are the rounds where they need the viewership and I'd bet more people want to see an underdog like George Mason or St. Joe's make a big run than the traditional power teams that most everyone cheers against anyway (NC, Duke, UConn, Syracuse).
