Pantagraph says ISU is interested in 12 candidates, and that the Athletic Director,
Sheahan Zenger, will work this coming week to reduce that number "dramatically".
It has been confirmed that ISU has contacted the Athletic Director at SIU-E, Brad Hewitt,
and has requested permission to talk with SIU-E head coach
Marty Simmons.
Hewitt also confirms that Evansville and Indiana State also has asked similar permission.
SIU-E will begin competing as D-I in 2008-2009.
Also--
"Floyd Keith, the executive director of the Black Coaches Association, said Friday that
ISU has made an inquiry to the BCA about potential African-American candidates.
The BCA will give ISU a list of candidates that fits what the school wants, added Keith."
No other names are confirmed to be on Zenger's list, but
"There are several prominent black Division I assistant coaches whom Zenger could find appealing.
Those include Wayne McClain (Illinois), Johnny Dawkins (Duke), Alan Major (Ohio State),
Mark Montgomery (Michigan State), Steve Robinson (North Carolina), Gene Cross (Notre Dame)
and Howard Moore (Wisconsin)."
