  • Billy Packer mention about possibly calling an MVC game

Who is surprised that Packer is such a tool... Jim Nantz kinda slaps the MVC earlier in the article as well....

    From the Chicago Tribune today:

Asked if he considered calling a Missouri Valley game this season as a way to show his interest in the league, Packer replied: "I do nothing for show. I'm not interested in appeasing anybody, other than my family. If I had the time, I'd love to watch them play. But do it just to show some people I'm there? That's not who I am."

We know who you are Billy, a pompous jerk who is so biased toward your beloved ACC
that you can't see they even play basketball anywhere else.

"Last year I asked a question that was backed up by facts," he said. "In the previous three years of the tournament, the ACC had won 25 games and the Valley had won one. So I asked, 'How is this possible?'"

Based a fact that has absolutely nothing to do with the that years selection of teams. But, Jimmy you are right it was a fact.

The multiple ACC bids were all given cushy top seeds so they were virtually guaranteed those wins.
The MVC bids never get such arbitrary breaks.

When God was passing out "brains," Billy thought He said "trains." So Billy said, "I'll take a slow one."

Nothing satisfies this guy. If nine teams from the ACC make it into the tournament, he'll still be upset that eleven or twelve didn't make it!

Though I'm certain he wouldn't read this board, aren't we just making the problem worse by eating up every foolish remark this guy says?

Doesn't mother say the best way to get rid of a bully is to completely ignore him?

Well, I expect SIU to get a four seed or better. If they don't, that would be a complete travesty!

Yes and no. Yes we should ignore him. However, he is so offbase that someone has to call him out regarding his misinformation once in awhile.

I don't think Nantz's response to his reasoning behind his comment was too off-base. He was very uneducated about the quality of the league, and I believe has done somewhat of a mea culpa regarding his comments. But, his tone (which was probably influenced by having that collossal @sshole next to him) was far from professional last year towards the commissioner.

I was talking about Packer being off-base, not Nantz. I agree, at least Nantz is open to doing some homework once in awhile. And he is more pleasant to be around with than the tool he works with.

BB, are you talking about the comment about the "fact" regarding past NCAA performance? If so, what exactly does that "fact" past performance have to do with current year chosen teams? And, it appears Nantz in the article is speaking in a current tone when it comes to his defense of his questioning and "fact".

I just cant stand the fact he is so involved in the presentation of the field yet he is not involved with NCAA basketball other then his couple of weeks calling a game on the weekend. Just seems like an outsider given to much exposure and "power" because he is a talent/voice on TV.

I don't know how this went down, but I am guessing Nantz and Packer were probably handed a piece of paper with the MVC's past NCAA record on it versus the ACC's, and told to talk about it. I think the harsh tone probably came from Packer being what he is, and Nantz trying to pander to the BCS audience (which, let's be honest, is larger than the MVC audience). I find Nantz to be arrogant and sometimes needing to be the show (especially when he does golf), but he did at least publicly admit he may have been rash in immediately dismissing the MVC, and BU in particular. Packer, on the other hand, is an insufferably pr-ck who doesn't deserve a microphone or a job.

If Packer and his ilk want to gripe about something, then please pick this topic--
How about the automatic bids for the conferences that are so bad that ICC would whallop them?
Why doesn't Billy pick on the SWAC, MEAC, Southland, and Atlantic Sun?
Their best teams like Mississippi Valley State have RPI's over 200 and yet they get an automatic bid.
I say eliiminate any conference's automatic bid if they don't have an RPI of at best 100!
