Did anyone else see the game?
ICC has a lot of very talented and athletic players, but they play like a bunch of guys who just met for the first time down at the "Y".
They are sloppy, bad passes, selfish play, ball hogs, never more than one pass before someone jacks up an ill advised shot, and yet they are athletic enough and good enough to get steals, loose balls, rebounds, and they end up with more points.

But they are ripe to get beat by a team that simply plays a bit under control.

And last night was a perfect example.
From the start ICC led and maintained a 5-10 point lead the whole way, then ICC got sloppy. Ping tried a couple moves to get to the basket and clobbered two guys on one move (got called for charging) and looked terrible on the other (got called for travelling), and every player on the floor threw up a couple bricks and airballs, like Matt Nicholson shooting threes.
Then a couple different players tried a few turn-around-fade-aways. Before you knew it, Lincoln had made up the deficit and took the lead with only a little over 5 minutes to play. With decent ball management, Lincoln could/should have won this game.

But they threw up some bad shots and turned the ball over and when ICC got the lead back, Lincoln folded a bit.

But even though this game was a 13 point margin, I guarantee Tony Wy was not happy at all with his team's play.
DeAaron hit a couple nice long shots, and can certainly score on breakaways, but this team looks like a dozen guys all thinking to themselves:
"hey, it's time that I got a some shots and scored some points.
      Watch what I can do!"

Why are Ping's stats so much worse this year?

ICC plays a much faster, uptempo run and gun style this year, and doesn't appear to like to utilize their low post players much at all. Ping played only a couple short stretches last night as is the case in many games. His game is not conducive to that run and gun style. Despite being 6'9", he jumps poorly and is easily outrebounded by shorter players. He also has had some injuries.

I've seen ICC play about 10 times this year, and Tornado is right. They win because they overwhelm their opponent with athleticism. They are also pretty deep.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just how it is. They don't play very good team basketball, do have a lot of turnovers, and take a ton of bad shots.

The thing is, they get away with it because most teams just can't deal with ICC's athletes. ICC preys on other teams ballhandlers. They usually force a ton of turnovers and get a ton of points on the fast break. They also usually kill their opponent on the offensive glass and second chance points.

Thing is this obviously works for them, and this team probably would not be as effective if they tried to be more structured offensively. That being said, the only type of team that could beat them would be a patient, well executing, good ballhandling team that has a few players that could match up athletically with the likes of DeAaron . In Juco ball, those players are hard to come by, and the type of team I've just described would not only give ICC trouble, but could give anybody trouble.

So ICC is what it is. They are not a good team as far as the traditional x's and o's go, but they are extremely hard to deal with and they win. That's all that counts.

Sort of like the "Phoenix Suns" effect less the turnovers. Dribble Dribble a little with Nash then take a shot. Maybe 1 or 2 passes and thats about it for each possession. Just have to be able to play the D and actually make your shots.

Dubl R, I agree with your assessment, and in fact, Lincoln DID give ICC some fits last night.
Lincoln does pass and screen well, they are a good team.
And despite a tremendous scoring spurt early by ICC in the game, and lots of points they tallied by steals and turnovers, they simply never could put Lincoln away.

Lincoln hung within 5 or so the whole game and actually snuck back to take the lead late in the game and were in a position to win.
But once they turned it over and lost the lead, they panicked. Then they rushed a few shots and fouled, giving ICC a final 13 pt. margin.
But this was a very close game, and I can see how Lincoln DID indeed beat ICC back on Jan. 10.

Now, Saturday's game also has to concern Tony Wysinger, since one of the only two other teams who have beaten ICC is the team they have to play on Saturday, Lewis & Clark.
The Cougars' last loss came at Lewis & Clark 86- 80 on Jan. 17.
In that game, just as you described Dubl R, it was horribly sloppy, lots of turnovers, lots of fouls, but L&C prevailed by 6.

So we all know that Williams is athletically gifted and call play ball, but will this sloppy type of basketball hurt him for the Braves?
If you build it, the students will come.

That's where coaching comes in. I think the coaching he'll get from Jim, Chuck, Eric, and Lennox will mold his game to the Bradley style. If not, he won't play as much as other guys will.

DeAaron can and will have to get better to play for BU in the MVC next year. I'm sure JL and staff will prepare him as best they can for what he'll face at the D-1 level, plus he had a small taste of it at Wisconsin for a year. As far as his "sloppiness" on offense, I think it'll help to have better people around him(D Ruff, Crouch, and Fears) than what's at ICC. The thing I feel he's gonna have to be better at is on ball defense. He's got all the tools--quickness, length, athleticism, to excel defensively. We talked about how good ICC was defensively, but it really comes from just being far superior physically than their opponent, it's not a disciplined defense. DeAaron sometimes can dog it defensively then recover thanks to his length or quickness or jumping ability at the juco level. I'm not ripping on him either, it's just how it is, and its natural to do that if you can get away with it. However at BU, his defense will have to be a lot more sound, as these are experienced players who will not be rattled by a DeAaron Williams, and who may be just as athletic.

I expect DeAaron will adjust and be a productive player.

Hey Tornado, where and when is the game vs Lewis and Clark?

ICC is hosting the regional, so the game is at the ICC gym,

BIG Congrats to Billy Baptist for being voted by all the Region 24 coaches as Player of the Year!
I suspect DeAaron Williams got some votes, but he was snubbed by many of the Dist. 24 coaches.
