I've seen ICC play about 10 times this year, and Tornado is right. They win because they overwhelm their opponent with athleticism. They are also pretty deep.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just how it is. They don't play very good team basketball, do have a lot of turnovers, and take a ton of bad shots.
The thing is, they get away with it because most teams just can't deal with ICC's athletes. ICC preys on other teams ballhandlers. They usually force a ton of turnovers and get a ton of points on the fast break. They also usually kill their opponent on the offensive glass and second chance points.
Thing is this obviously works for them, and this team probably would not be as effective if they tried to be more structured offensively. That being said, the only type of team that could beat them would be a patient, well executing, good ballhandling team that has a few players that could match up athletically with the likes of DeAaron . In Juco ball, those players are hard to come by, and the type of team I've just described would not only give ICC trouble, but could give anybody trouble.
So ICC is what it is. They are not a good team as far as the traditional x's and o's go, but they are extremely hard to deal with and they win. That's all that counts.
Dubl R, I agree with your assessment, and in fact, Lincoln DID give ICC some fits last night.
Lincoln does pass and screen well, they are a good team.
And despite a tremendous scoring spurt early by ICC in the game, and lots of points they tallied by steals and turnovers, they simply never could put Lincoln away.
Lincoln hung within 5 or so the whole game and actually snuck back to take the lead late in the game and were in a position to win.
But once they turned it over and lost the lead, they panicked. Then they rushed a few shots and fouled, giving ICC a final 13 pt. margin.
But this was a very close game, and I can see how Lincoln DID indeed beat ICC back on Jan. 10.
Now, Saturday's game also has to concern Tony Wysinger, since one of the only two other teams who have beaten ICC is the team they have to play on Saturday, Lewis & Clark.
The Cougars' last loss came at Lewis & Clark 86- 80 on Jan. 17.
In that game, just as you described Dubl R, it was horribly sloppy, lots of turnovers, lots of fouls, but L&C prevailed by 6.
