Heemy-- did you get my e mail on this topic?
If not, then private message me and give me your email address
and I will send you some info...but I think it is highly unlikely Ray Brown will play this year even though his NCAA mandated penalty ends completely on 3/15/07.

Nope, too risky with possibly losing that season of eligibility.

Before anyone gets too excited about Austin, here are his stats at his JUCO:
                  FG % 119/224 53.1%
                  FT % 53/85 62.4%
                  Ave. Points 8.56
                  Ave. Rebounds 5.32

Someone please tell me why we should get so excited about someone who has these low averages and is only good enough to play about 20 minutes per game at the JUCO level. In the MVC this may translate into very little (similar to what Salley did this year 21.3 minutes, 7.2ppg and 4.8rpg and hardly a dominating big player).

I trust the coaching staff's ability to assess talent. Austin is being pursued by a number of high major schools, so obviously he's doing something right.

In addition to that, this all could be a smokescreen for a bigger, better player that we might land. A few years ago everyone thought we were getting Rodney Hannah, a big PF from Yuba. Instead we got this guy named Lawrence Wright, who only had one other DI offer. Hannah went to Houston and fizzled, Wright came to BU and had 2 stellar seasons, and was a key member of a Sweet 16 team. I'm not worried, we'll be fine.

Whoa.....where are you getting those numbers...?
Are they maybe like last year's numbers when as a freshman his playing time was limited by injuries?

Here is what I can tell you.........for RASHAD AUSTIN

The PRESENT YEAR'S stats listed on the National Junior College Athletic Association web site say this:
                      12.6ppg, 7.3 rpg.....that's a far cry from 8/5!!

I prefer to believe the stats I have in BOLD are more accurate and just to confirm that they are.....check this out....

I corresponded per email with someone who has watched every game Rashad has played this year.
I have showed this email to at least 25 of our posters privately, but I will share the text of it right here...

                      >>>>
"Rashad Austin is a 6-7, 240-pound forward. He's athletic enough to run
with a fast team, and he's good enough in the half-court sets to score
from the post. Rashad is more of a post-up, back to the basket
guy...but I've seen him face some guys up and go to the rim from the
perimeter. He's averaging 13 points and seven rebounds a game for the
fourth-ranked junior college in the country. He's a decent free-throw
shooter, but could improve on his 69 percent. As physical as he is in
stature and the way he plays, he always guards the other team's biggest
guy. He obviously knows how to win as he's led his team to 25 wins so
far. In my opinion, he's been the most reliable/consistent player this
season in that his stats don't vary from game to game. He's always
                      around 10 points and 10 rebounds, with his season-high being a 22-point
                      performance.
                      "

So again, I would say your stats are wrong.

Those numbers (8.56 ppg, 5.32 rpg) are from the Northeast Junior College website. Frome the main page, there is a link on the right side to view the 2006-2007 stats.

However, if you click on it, it takes you here--

These are the 2005-2006 stats (see the URL/web address). They don't apparently have a link to the current 2006-2007 stats. I believe the ones tornado cites are the current ones.

Sorry, didn't mean to come over as "nasty", just wanted to get the proper stats up there.
Jim Les is doing a pretty good job recruiting, and I am hoping to hear something soon along the line of Rashad.
