BU coaching candidates- where are they now?

Those who want a change in coaching may be in the minority but it appears to me that at this time the majority is ambivalent. I think attendance at games would indicate my observation is correct. No doubt someone has access to the number of tickets sold to both the MVC tourney and tickets sold for the Braves Club raffle. Those numbers should indicate the support for the program.

Tickets to the MVC tourney, something BU has ALWAYS been up near the top at, find us among the bottom feeders around 375 last I heard.

Bottom line:
McCaffery is a good coach. Bradley recognized that back in 2002 and included him on their list of candidates. He had several good years at Siena and his success translated into a higher paying job at Iowa, where he hasn't accomplished anything yet. Iowa is 10-17 this season, and McCaffery is playing with a reduced roster because a number of Iowa players and recruits bolted.

At Iowa, McCaffery replaced a proven winning coach with NCAA success Todd Lickliter, who was hailed by some here as a great hire back in 2007. He went 13-19, 15-17, and 10-22 in his 3 years there. He was hired to replace Steve Alford, who had a winning record every year he was at Iowa. But Lickliter immediately turned Iowa into a losing team and was bought out and run out of town before he could rebuild by fans who had run out of patience. Iowa is still paying Lickliter.

And Siena hired Mitch Buonaguro who is now rebuilding and having a losing season (Siena is 11-16). Siena fans aren't happy with a losing record after several good years under McCaffery.
Just like we have been saying, coaching changes sometimes work (McCaffery at Siena), and sometimes don't (Lickliter at Iowa, McCaffery at Iowa so far, and Buonagoro at Siena so far).

I would agree with your last sentence. However, I think McCaffery inherited absolutely nothing when Lickliter left. A bit premature to deem that McCaffery isn't working.

We were hovering around or below .500 in JL's first few years, and I was happy because at least there were signs of progress.

Yes, I agree that McCaffery inherited little at Iowa. My comments about Lickliter meant that he was a proven winner before he got to Iowa, and he didn't work out there.

I heard Valpo fans only use the bathrooms and go to concessions before and after the game....they are also so loyal and kind they are sending about 2000 fans to the MVC tourney as goodwill ambassadors to root for Bradley.
