BU coaching candidates- where are they now?

So since Coach Les has near-unanimous support among fans and donors, do you think all that support is misguided? What should be done?

I think winning should be done! I dont want the coach to be replaced but if he is recruiting good talent which everyone says he is and he is not winning then what? Would he have the same support if he wasnt one of the best players in Bradley history? How many seasons outside the top 3 will the fans and donors accept? We are going on 6, granted you get a few extra years for winning in the NCAA tournament so would you say 2 more years outside the top 3? 3 more years? 4? 5? How many?

Do you think our associate head coach is as qualified as CB or based on his resume qualified to be an assoiciate head coach at a D1 school at all? Do you think having a more qualified associate head coach would help? I dont know but it cant hurt.

I don't feel I am qualified to tell the coach who he should select as his assistants. I am satisfied with the direction the program is going. He is doing a good job and has my support.

I am not against coach Les. I want him to succeed completely. He has his strengths and he has his weaknesses. I don't care if he plays 4 guards, 3 guards or 2 guards. I want him to figure out what it takes to finish in the top 3 of the Valley on a regular basis, win more games than he loses in St. Louis, and make it back to the NCAA on somewhat of a regular basis. Can it be done? I don't know, but I want it. I am not a basketball expert, but I do watch away from the ball most of the time when I watch games. BU is not good at playing defense consistently, BU does not play with enough intensity for complete games, BU does not block out well for rebounds, and BU does not crash the boards by going to the lane. I feel BU loses more games due to fundamentals and effort than talent. In my opinion that comes down to the coaching staff, not just Jim Les. Do I want Coach Les gone...no. Do I want him to learn and get better....you bet. Coach Les has done many things I like, he and his staff just need to get better at getting the team to do the little things that win the close games. A few more rebounds, a little better defense , and more intensity can turn a lot of losses to wins. Would I like better talent...sure. Can we get it...I don't know. I think the talent we have had the past few years could finish higher with the things I list. If you accept mediocrity, that is what you will get. I am not willing to accept mediocrity. BU can do better. Here is hoping BU and Coach Les get it done.

How long will you support the program if we dont finish in the top 3?

Almost no one on this board or any borad is "qualfied" to talk about college baskeball, that doesnt mean we dont. We all form opinions

Here is our associate head coaches resume and our director of operations resume. I think the ops guys has a better resume for coaching college. Part of being a head coach is picking the best people to work for you.

I disagree. I want to have input in the assistants we hire. Why won't anyone take my crazy plan of stocking the staff with fired Valley head coaches seriously? We already have one. Hire Barry! Hire Royce! What about Dr. Tom? I heard through my sources (not really) that he's ticked sitting out this year and that he wants to put Keno in his place.

We're talking about basketball. Big difference, unless you consider this as important as the invention of the light bulb.

I have read dissatisfied fans on the Saluki board, Kentucky board, and yes.....my gosh,
even on the Florida message board saying they were dissatisfied with their present coach and wanted to get out while they could.
Da Coach, I guess it wouldn't be any different here.
After all, isn't Peoria the "Land of 10,000 basketball coaches"?

Its all about your expectaions. Those teams want to make deep runs in the tournament and win national championships every few years. I would like to finish in the top 3 but maybe that is to much to ask of a small private school with bad facilities. Perhaps the new standard should be top 5 and pray for the NIT.

Im sorry if you feel insulted, that is certainly not my intention. Lots of different Bradley fans support the team in lots of different ways. Those of us who are unhappy with the results are insulted the most. Told "were not real fans" called "psedo fans" because we are unhappy with losing. Told we are "selfish" because we wouldnt give Dan Ruffin the same benfit of the doubt we would our own family. Those are all things that have been posted about me and a few other posters.

This was a dissapointing season by anyones standards so I come on here and vent to others who I think are dissappointed. Nothing personal

I'm not miserable, thank you. I'm actually quite happy I have a week off from school. I guess I just don't look through rose-colored glasses and imagine that everything is just fine and peachy at BU. Is it a crime that I want to see this program at or near the top of the league standings on a regular basis? Because that hasn't happened since I arrived here four years ago.

I don't even know where to buy rose colored glasses, and of course I want to see BU win the Valley every year,
but I sure don't think griping on a message board will get it done, and I think this thread has totally put to rest the notion that we could have done better with another of the candidates from the 2002 coaching search.

That's the whole point of this thread....to show that of the 60 different people who were candidates, then whittled down to about a dozen, then narrowed to four, and then JL was chosen......I am firmly convinced we got the best guy and we should stick with him.
There is nobody who would have even done as well let alone better.
If you think otherwise, then give me his (or her) name?
Which one of the options would have been better.

Some of this reminds me of a guy who gets married then spends the rest of his life bemoaning that he maybe could have married someone better. Always seeing the negatives, always seeing the glass half empty, and missing the entire experience along the way.
