  • NCAA At-Large bids and RPI

Here is a complete list of teams with low RPI that were left out of the NCAA tournament since the RPI was created
    2006:
    #21 - Missouri State, #30 - Hofstra, #39 - Creighton, #40 - Cincinnati, #43 - St. Joseph's, #47 - Michigan
    2005:
    #43 - Miami-Ohio, #45 - Wichita State, #46 - Buffalo
    2004:
    #38 - LSU, #43 - Utah State, #48 - Georgia
    2003: (note: #5 - Georgia, was ineligible)
    #40 - UNLV, #42 - Seton Hall, #48 - Texas Tech
    2002:
    #43 - Villanova, #46 - Arkansas, #48 - South Carolina
    2001:
    #40 - Mississippi State, #43 - Richmond, #45 - Villanova
    2000:
    #34 - Southwest Missouri State, #36 - Kent, #39 - Vanderbilt
    1999:
    #40 - Oregon, #41 - TCU, #43 - Rutgers
    1998:
    #35 - Wake Forest, #44 - Vanderbilt, #45 - Hawaii
1997: (note: #29 - Texas Tech, was ineligible)
    #40 - Michigan, #41 - TCU, #42 - Southwest Missouri State
    1996:
    #42 - Providence, #43 - Oklahoma State, #46 - Minnesota
    1995:
    #36 - Virginia Tech, #41 - St. Joseph's, #44 - Ohio
    1994:
    #33 - Oklahoma, #35 - UNC Charlotte, #38 - Georgia Tech

So 11 teams failed to make it with an RPI under 40 since 1994, and 3 of them (Missouri State, Hofstra, and Creighton) were last year. But 29 more teams from 40 - 48 missed out in that time.

    Bradley's current RPI is 36.
Prior to last year, there had only been 4 teams ever excluded from an at-large bid with an RPI of 36 or lower!- #33 Oklahoma in 1994, #36 Virginia Tech in 1995, #35 Wake in 1998, and #34 Missouri State in 2000. Then last year, Missouri State at #21 blew that old record out of the water. So most years, #36 would be good enough to get into the NCAA. Let's hope it works this year!

I know where you are coming from... but there is no chance.

Better clear your calendar for a week from Wednesday for a 1st round NIT game.

I'm still holding out hope and will be watching selection Sunday with clenched cheeks and baited breath.

Snell says get ready for NIT. I'm not so sure we won't go to the dance...................

I agree MM. We didn't get the opportunity to grab that one win in St. Louis against Creighton or Missouri State. Since we were on opposite sides of the bracket, it was a moot point since a win over either the Bluejays or Bears would have given us the automatic berth. Hopefully, someone on the selection committee saw the excitement and competitiveness the Missouri Valley Conference showcased so well this weekend. Perhaps a small check mark in the "good" column for Bradley, but we'll take any positive we can get at this point!

just a question, or more of what everyone thinks now, BU currently is holding an rpi of 35 and SoS of 17 overall record of 21-12 i believe, correct me if i'm wrong MSU is currently 36 in rpi and 38 SoS with overall record of 21-10.
Do you think the loss to CU actually helped us out a little, and i really feel our Rpi is actually going to rise more as the week goes on...maybe its just wishful thinking but do u think our chances have gone up some?

Remember that for post season the Braves record becomes 20-12 .....the SIUE game does not count in post season with them not being D1!

Mike...let's just say the Valley is deemed strong enough by the selection committee that four teams are considered.
If there are enough slots, then why not...BU is clearly the 4th and maybe the 3rd best team in the Valley right now.

BU will be considered by the Selection Committee.....

However, when the dust settles, I think our 1-8 record against the top 1-50 RPI teams is what will leave us on the outside looking in.

How much weight does the JC injury really carry to the commitee.......Doug Elgin thinks it is up for major consideration with JC missing 8 games and being the teams top scorer when it happened? There is still a chance for a melt-down by a lot of teams on the bubble so for the mean-time.......lets get into the feildhouse and shoot some FT's!

I think the strength of the MVC allows three teams to go to the NCAA tournament this year. SIU and CU are locks. The question is what team does the selction committee take for the third - MSU or BU? I think BU has a stronger case.

After all of Saturday's games got done, we came in at 43 in the RPI.

IMO, as we sit idle for the next 8 days while other teams play, we will drop only slightly.

I think our chances for an NCAA bid remain the same... very slim.

Gotta disagree, DB. MSU won both head-to-head matchups, and has the marquee win over Wisconsin. I think they're 3rd in the conference pecking order, ahead of BU.

I agree, MSU has the head to head with us they hold the upper hand, I though would be shocked if they were invited.
