VCU won today. Is this good or bad? The good news, VCU winning boosts our RPI. The bad news, they beat Drexel, which could give the CAA another at-large bid.

I think VCU knocked Drexel out.

      According to JPalm at collegerpi.com...

      - Drexel was IN his Fri Bracket Projection Friday (and he will update it tomorrow).

(prior to today's loss to VCU in Richmond)

      RPI: 42
      SOS: 104
      vs Top50: 3-2
      vs 51-100: 4-3
      vs 101-200: 8-2
      vs 201 +: 7-0

      - Palm has 21 teams named as "Fence Sitters" to fill 14 spots (in his opinion) with Drexel amongst the 21.

--- Fence Sitter Breakdown: Won 7 of 8, road record of 13-4, Wins at Nova, Creighton and Syracuse; but, Lost at Rider (200 RPI) and at William & Mary (19.

Comment - The Dragons took care of Northeastern and now face VCU in what might be an elimination game in the CAA semis.

RealtimeRPI has us listed at 39... I think when I checked this morning, we were at 44.

This is going to be a very very very long week.

Btw, Palm had 3 Colonial teams IN his bracket for the past week.

We'll see what he thinks tomorrow.

We're still only 6 spots behind Mo State. Anyone think it's possible to leapfrog them, even with getting swept by them?

                Blind Resume:

                Record: 21-12
                RPI: 40
                SOS: 19
                Conference Record: 10-8, 4th place
                Conference RPI: 5
                Road/Neutral Record: 8-9
                Record v Top 50: 2-6
                Record v Top 100: 6-10
                Record in Last 10: 6-4

Lost leading scorer for 8 conference games (5-3)

If that comes from the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, SEC, or Pac-10, it's a no-brainer. The seeding is the only real question. But, that's BU's resume, but we're barely even talked about for an at-large bid.
                Onward and Upward!

The record vs. Top 50 and Top 100 really tell the story. It is hard to argue those numbers. Too bad. NIT bound...

Agreed, but like I said, that resume gets a BCS team in every time.

As I have said many times before, there is no way that the number five ranked conference (or even number six or seven) will not get at least three teams in. Whether Bradley could be a fourth is anyone's guess. But three is a given. Book it! [/quote

Three is not a given unless the committee wants to make-up for screwing MSU last year. The MVC will get 2 and that is all because the numbers just don't favor BU or MSU. The only real help for MSU is they beat Wisconsin and that may be enough... we really did not beat anyone (other than SIU at home).

Air Force got in last year with an RPI of 50, a SOS of 158, and lost in the 1st round of the MWC Tournament. I'd like to think we'd have a fighting chance to get in, but I just don't believe that we do.

Air Force's resume included that they were the regular season champion of the Mountain West Conf.
But as I posted in another thread, the majority of years, a team with an RPI where Bradley's is, around 40, have gotten in as at-large.

Air Force was NOT the MWC winner last year (they were 12-4 and SD St was 13-3).

Air Force had NOTHING on their resume over other bubble teams to merit an at-large other than having a tie to someone on the selection committee.

And then, as the weakest team put in the tourney (with an at-large), UIUC gets 'em... 'silver platter' for an over-rated B10 team to help them get to the Sweet 16.

Haha - all the sweeter it was UIUC lost to Washington just before Bradley played themselves into the Sweet 16 on EVERYONE'S tv on Sunday of the 2nd Round (while there were NO OTHER games being played).

Well george, has there ever been a top 7 conference that did not get at least three teams in? Maybe someone can do the research, or I can check the records.

Actually, I just answered my own question. According to Kenpom.com, of the 24 conferences that finished in the #5 to #7 spot from 1999 to 2006, there were just two instances were conferences failed to get more than two teams into the tournament. Those were the 2001 WAC conference, and the 2005 West Coast Conference, both of them earning two bids. Both finished in the #7 spot. Therefore, no conference that finished #6 or higher have ever earned fewer than three bids.

Therefore, unless the Valley falls to seventh, there is no way the Valley will fail to earn at least 3 bids.
