  • Update on Leon Powell, prominent mention of Bradley

Leon Powell just gave a new interview to Jeff Johnson, reporter for the Illini...

"6-foot-7 St. Louis Vashon power forward Leon Powell is averaging 20 points, ten rebounds for his 20-6 team. Vashon is in the middle of their playoff run ..."

"As far as recruiting? "Bradley and Saint Louis are right there for me. I plan to visit them and Missouri State. My grades are much better now so I have a chance at qualifying. Bradley, Missouri State and Saint Louis all have told they will have a scholarship for me if I qualify."

"If Powell falls short he has a backup plan. "Right now I would go to a prep school if possible next year."

If you want to hear more, you have to PM me your e mail address.

His team is coached by former NBA'er Anthony Bonner...

Leon is averaging 18+ pts., 9+ rebounds a game...
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

The Rivals article says 20 and 10,
        so that's a bit exaggerated??

Did anyone hear if Powell got his grades in order? I haven't seen anything in print. Just curious to see if he's still an option for 07. Thanks...

Last I heard he wasn't going to qualify this year. He was looking at juco or prep school.

A mention in the St. Louis paper says Leon Powell is "signed" by Indian Hills junior college in Iowa,
same place Robert Eppinger and Dwight Buycks are at.

Also, Sean Haluska, just signed with Iowa State and younger brother of Iowa's Adam Haluska, just completed two years at Indian Hills.

I still have no idea why Buycks chose the JUCO route over the prep school route, unless he was really that bad academically.

Hmm I didn't realize he signed with the JUCO. He was one I thought may be the mystery recruit. Oh Well.

Hopefully both Buycks and Powell could come to Bradley as a package; I don"t think we are going to get another recruit as it is getting late and our guys have been working out with our trainer; does anyone know if Austin is on campus now?

                          BB-
I believe the new rules as they apply to prep school will cause a whole lot of kids to go to juco instead.
It depends on their individual circumstances, but for the most part they are not allowed to go to prep school just to try to improve their grade point averages or to get extra tries at the ACT.
They are allowed to acquire only ONE more core class at prep.

"to be eligible, a student will need 16 core classes and only one can come from a postgraduate year."
J.T. Thompson's plans of prep school and then Virginia Tech were thrust into limbo with the NCAA's new ruling.
