  • MVC Announces POY, and All Conference Awards Today

The vote is already taken and the Conference players and teams will be announced today,
all except the Coach of the Year award which is going to be announced Thursday.

    My guesses:
Player of the Year...Nate Funk...this is a given

Freshman of the Year....three way race between Marico Stinson, Osiris Eldridge, Josh Young.... I think OE gets the nod for some pretty big individual games.

Newcomer of the Year...Boo Richardson (3-time Newcomer of the Week)

    Defensive MVP...Anthony Tolliver (tough decision)

6th Man....Danny Adams (not sure who else is even close, as most of the 6th men early on became starters in the 2nd half of the Valley season)

Coach of the Year...I think it should be JL but I predict those who voted will select Lowery.

First team All Valley...Funk, Tatum, Falker, Ahearn, Will Franklin.
2nd Team...Daniel Ruffin, Anthony Tolliver, Matt Webster, Eric Coleman.

T, why only four players on your second team?

That is a pretty good list.

Defensive MVP should go to Falker. 3rd in rebounding, 1st in blocks which is ahead of Tolliver in both cases. I'd have Coleman as my runner up.

I also think that Les deserves it but that Lowery is going to get the award.

I haven't followed the Valley my whole life so I'm not exactly sure about this one - how often have two players from the same team make both the first team or second team all conference?

If it's possible, then I think Coleman potentially could get bumped up to first team, putting both Franklin and Ruffin both on the second team. I'd add Stout to the list for the second team.

I think both Franklin and Ruffin are worthy of First Team consideration, but the fact that BU plays so much as a team may end up hurting them in awards consideration. If you are outside of Peoria, you might think Crouch is our best player if you've watched certain nights and Andrews another...
      Go Braves!

I'm sure tornado knows this, but the Coach of the Year award is actually given out Thursday in St. Louis.

I left off the 5th player on my 2nd team all- conference,
I would place Kyle Wilson, although he is only barely ahead of Stout and Crouch and only because I am sure the voters won't give enough votes for BU to have 3 guys or UNI to have two.

Also, my All-Frosh team will be
Stinson, Eldridge, Holmstrom, Creighton's Isaac Miles, and Drake's Josh Young.
            Andrew Warren just misses...

Posters on the SIU board are reporting that Tatum is the MVC POY. It hasn't been announced yet, but they say it's based on inside info. Maybe true?

My bad. Thanks for pointing that out, Chucky T.

It wouldn't surprise me as SIU got a whole lot of TV exposure
while Creighton did not, and since the voting is coming from school personnell and the media, that has probably helped Tatum.

But the guy who started that thread posted about it last night, and several others have now begun to doubt how he could know that early.

I am not sure I'd bet on something so shaky, but he might be right.
