  • Drake Player Quits Team

I suspect there's more tothis than just the player quitting.

Drake's Chris Bryant, who just a year ago was one of the brightest and most promising sophomores in the Valley, has now quit the team.
As a sophomore he averaged nearly 18 min per game, and 8.2 ppg, and was Drakes 4th leading scorer, and 3rd leading returning scorer.

But this year, Bryant's playing time as shooting guard has gone largely to the freshman Josh Young (25.4mpg) and Leonard Houston (16.2 mpg), and Bryant has only played 13 mpg -- and only 11 mpg and 2.7 ppg since the conference season started.
He didn't even play in 12 of the 18 conference games...so I think he saw the writing on the wall.

For a team which employs an offensive style of shuffling lots of various players in and out, and utilizes at least 10 players for double digit minutes per game, they just can't possibly keep everyone happy.
If Bryant transfers to a D-I school he will have only one season remaining.
Most BU fans will even have a hard time recalling who Bryant is, as in the three years he's been at Drake, and the six regular season games he's played against us, he's never had a good game and he's been virtually invisible.

I dont know how Dr Tom recruits kids to play in his system. Its been many years ago since I played but I would never be able to get in a rhythm as fast as he brings people in and out. I am not a Coach and I know he has been around a while but I am just saying I could not have played for him. I always took a few minutes to get into the flow of the game and with him you are out before that happens.
