    Where's Sam?

He could hold his own with those guys though.

He played with and against players of that caliber all summer. He wouldn't be out of his league. With the way McDonald's AA's are chosen nowadays, you'll have a hard time convincing me that those are the top 24 high school players in America anyways. Bobby Frasor was a McDonald's AA, and about the only thing he has over Sam is a couple inches. If Sam was Frasor's height, he just might be on the McDonald's roster.

But Bobby Frasor cant compete with those guys (Mayo, Gordon,Rose) Frasor and Sam are both four year players, those guys are one and done lottery picks, different level.

Exactly my point - If Frasor is a McDonald's AA player, Sam is of the caliber as well. Perhaps its more of an indictment of the selection system as a whole, but nothing Frasor did in high school told me he was that caliber, and Sam seems to be just as skilled if not moreso. Sure, no one can compete with Rose and Gordon in America. What about the rest of the roster? As much hype as there is for them, most of them will end up being 4 year players. I didn't say Sam was as good or better than Rose or Gordon, I said he could play on that roster. The prerequisite isn't being better than those 2 players.

No way...those McD AA's not only have to be top players, but there's one other requirement....they HAVE to be BCS recruits.

You will not see a midmajor recruit in the McD AA.
By signing with BU, Sam could have been the next Pistol Pete and he would not have played in that game.

And Frasor didnt look like he belonged at the game. So yes if Frasor is the standard you place on the Mcdonalds teams then I suppose Sam could hold his own. However, I look at those two rosters and think that all of the guards are at a different level.

Also as much as I didnt think Frasor was that good in highschool he did put up some pretty good numbers as a freshman in the ACC.

Frasor's freshman year showed how great of a coach Roy Williams really is. Sam is a better HS player than Frasor IMO. If Sam was going to DePaul or Illinois he would probably be getting McDonald's consideration. Instead he's classified as an 'undersized' point guard heading to a mid-major. I'm fine with that. There's nothing 'mid-major' about his game, that's for sure. Demetri McCamey and Evan Turner found that out first-hand.

It's not likely, but it has happened before. Not for about 25 years, but it has happened. I wouldn't say it's impossible.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

I would welcome someone (anyone) doing the research and finding how many McDoanalds All Americans have gone directly from high school to a mid-major.
(Can not count kids who were simply nominated, but only those who played in the McD AA Game count. Duke had eight of them last year on their roster at one time - Dockery, Ewing, Nelson, Randolph, Redick, Boateng, McRoberts, Paulus).

I can name one, Micah Downs presently playing for Gonzaga, but he went to Kansas first, so I really don't count him.
Antoine Carr was a McDonalds AA, and I believe Cliff Levingston was, too, but that's back in the early 1980's... and so my statement still stands if the most recent one you can find is over 20 years ago.

All i said was it has happened in the past. I even said it was about 25 years ago.

Thanks for naming a couple guys that i was referring to. i'd add Aubrey Sherrod and Greg Dreiling to the names you mentioned.

All I said was it has happened. It's been a long time for sure but the fact that is hasn't happened in 25 years doesn't mean it never will again. Heck it nearly happened about 10 years ago.

I am simply saying that while it is unlikely, I won't say 'never'.

DC-- Greg Dreiling was a McD AA but started at Kansas then went to WSU when he was unhappy at Kansas, and Sherrod was 1981.
(funny how so many ended up at Wichita in the early 80's),
but I'd still like to know if any of the McD AA's went straight to a midmajor in the past 20 years.
I can't find a single comprehensive site listing all the McD AA's, let me know if you have one.

I'd even go so far as to say if someone like Micah Downs had committed the fall of his senior year to Gonzaga instead ofm Kansas, I believe he'd have been passed over.
It is so consistent each year for 20 years, that I have to believe it is a premeditated factor in the choice of the McD AA.
