Evansville and drake are 2 teams that are capable of scoring a lot of points; will they beat siu, probably not but they have a better chance with all the senior experience they have.
Evansville played pretty well at SIU Saturday night. The Aces had some sloppy possessions and missed some key shots that could have made things more interesting in Carbondale. Both EU and Drake could give the Salukis a run for their money, but Drake's defense has been too inconsistent for my taste, so I like Evansville in the first game of the tournament. I think they have a better chance at knocking off the defending champs in the quarterfinals.
I'll take the Redbirds to beat Indiana State. Illinois State has played better down the stretch. The Sycamores haven't shown much since their midseason magic landed them wins against Purdue, Butler, and Creighton. The potential quarterfinal hook-up with Creighton will be very interesting. Illinois State rolled the Bluejays in Normal just days ago. Can they do it again?
The Bradley-Northern Iowa quarterfinal may prove to be an NIT bid-buster for the loser. Are the Panthers in the Braves' heads? If UNI wins, then makes it to the conference finals and lose, they'd be 20-13. Bradley would be 20-12 with 3 losses to the purple cats. The Braves can clear a big hurdle psychologically with a win and keep their faint NCAA hopes alive at the same time. A true pick-em game if there ever was one. Better guard play will determine the winner here.
The last quarterfinal between Missouri State and Wichita State will be hotly contested. Knowing what happened to the Bears last year, MSU is in a must-win position. They lose this game, and they could be on the wrong side of the bubble come March 11th. Like 6 other teams, WSU knows it cannot make the NCAA's and have a chance to duplicate last season's sweet run without winning it all in St. Louis.
There should be some compelling games at this year's Arch Madness. It's the last chance for teams to make an impression on both post season tournament selection committees--should be fun (except for the teams that lose).
"The NCAA is so upset about alleged recruiting violations at Kentucky that they decided to give Cleveland State the Death Penalty"--Jerry Tarkanian
I actually think Illinois State has a chance to sneak up on a couple teams.
They have been playing well, and even their losses have been close.
On a neutral court and with a couple breaks I really think they can beat Creighton.
I would love to see BU play ISU in the finals for the MVC Championship.

Sigh. That'd be like manna from heaven. 'Cept they've got a bit of a chip on the shoulder, and knowing our streaky luck, nothing's set in stone ...
