He's 19 years old, arrested for public intoxication at 3:39 AM on Thusday morning, only a few hours before class, which generally means he was not only drunk but was causing a disturbance at that hour.
Will it be two weeks before the university looks into where he got the booze?

Here's head coach Matt Painter's statement:
"Johnathan made an error in judgment," said Painter in a statement released Friday evening. "All punishment will be internally, and we will work with him to get through this period. He will rejoin the team when we feel he is ready."

This underage drinking crackdown is such an f-ing crock. If you're in college, you're old enough to make decisions for yourself. If you screw up(ie...drunk driving), well that sucks but you're old enough to control your behavior and deserve the consequences.

But I think most parents of kids who are being sent to college and having their expenses paid by either the parents or the state would expect a bit more accountability of those in charge.

If the underage kids are drinking at a frat party then the frat shoud be more accountable for the behavior going on there.
If the kids are drinking and doing drugs, and causing mayhem by driving and publicly acting while drunk - then allowed right back on the team, the school fosters this setting by coddling these kids and not supervising them and properly punishing them.
As was noted elsewhere, the scholarship athletes sign an agreement when they receive their scholarship, and they agree to terms in writing, that they will abstain from this stuff and that they will be punished and accept the punishment if they are guilty/
Ray Brown is getting punished hard, and so did Mike Suggs, and so do a rare few college jocks who commit these violations, but most are welcomed back by coaches like Ritchie McKay, Bruce Pearl, and the guys who let Pierre Pierce back, just because they want the scoring rather than stick to the discipline.
It is an ever recurring story.

Here's one that I guess I hadn't heard, but it is also another BIG TEN kid...
the captain of the Michigan basketball team, Lester Abrams, was handcuffed and arrested after being caught speeding, driving on a suspended license, and being a fugitive from a prior warrant.
Then when the Michigan captain was asked about it by the press, he lied, said it didn't happen and that his license was not suspended.
A check of the public records proved indeed it is suspended for the 4th time in the past 2 years.

Nevertheless, Abram started the next Michigan game two days later.
He also started the game that is going on right now at Minnesota, and has played most of the game and obviously hasn't received even a tiny bit of punishment from the coach.

Actually, all these drunk players and DUI's are kids recruited by the coaching staff of SIU even after they left to coach elsewhere.
Tatum, and all the SIU thugs, the Illini lushes, and now this kid at PU - all recruited by Weber and Painter.
So that's the common thread, it goes beyond the Big Ten.

I check this site out often and really enjoy all you guys have to say, so I hate to come out of nowhere and argue like this. But come on, have any of you attended college in the last ten years? A 19 year old being drunk at school is a mortal sin now? Get off your Big Ten bashing high horse...
