  • Bob Huggins

Cincinatti would like to get rid of him. They have informed him they will not renew or extend his contract and are discussing a buyout. Sounds like they want to get rid of him before he causes more embarrassment.

Embattled Cincinnati head coach Bob Huggins was not offered an extension or reinstatement of his contract rollover provision in a meeting Wednesday with the university's president, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Here is another article by Gregg Doyel of CBS Sportsline that suggests the real reason the president of Cincinnati wants to get rid of Huggins is because she's jealous that he is "bigger" than she is! Nevermind all the embarrassing DUI's and illegal activities by the coaches and players over the years.

I used to have respect for Doyel's opinions.

This thought reflects again on the fact, that a large part of the American populace only think of certain schools in athletic context.

Some, when they hear the words "UNC", DePaul, Cincinnati, Lamar, Bradley, Louisville, etc....think immediately and only of their basketball programs. Many people couldn't even tell you what state certain schools are in without looking it up (Davidson, Lamar, Seton Hall, Bradley, Gonzaga).

The president of Cincinnati, Nancy Zimpher, surely knows that and it bugs her. Perhaps she thinks she can right the entire sitiation herself. out of one side of their mouths these academic folks say,
"(basketball) ..will boost Cincinnati's profile more than...(anything else)

and then out of the other side they wonder why people only want to talk about basketball when Cincinnati is mentioned. You can't have it both ways.

If they fire Huggins, how long will it take before he ends up elsewhere like Bob Knight or Larry Eustachy?
then the turmoil will start there as well, so is the price really worth it?
Yes if you want a few wins but are willing to accept the scorn and ridicule that comes with horrible graduation rates and recruits that generate police reports.

Smell the coffee....he's a great recruiter and a good coach.
He may not always have the most obedient players, and the guy has a few personal problems, but the guy could change if given the right opportunity. Too bad..but it sounds like he's a goner at Cincy. What will be the next program he screws up?

As a followup to this thread on Bob Huggins from exactly two years ago...........

Now----- it's Kansas State that has some issues related to Bob Huggins, and they may be paying the price of dealing with the devil.
It all started when they hired Bob Huggins.
They paid a bundle to fire their prior coach and pay off his contract and bring in Huggins, and he went 23-12, including an NIT win over Vermont.
Sure, they won a couple more games with Huggins than they might have without him, but then Huggins hired a couple assistants who were shady, so he could land certain recruits like Jason Bennett, Bill Walker, and Michael Beasley.
Then he bolts for WVU and his assistant Frank Martin is elevated to head coach solely to try to retain the committments from the 5-Star recruits.

But it has been a public relations nightmare since it has been revealed that Martin was expelled from coaching in Florida because of alleged cheating and falsifying kids' transcripts so they could play for his team. The AD is tired of fielding calls and inquiries about the cheating.

Then, unfortunately, their superstar, 5-Star stud Bill Walker tears up his knee and ends up playing only a total of 6 games and contributing nothing to their conference season (their nonconference strength of schedule was 227!)

Then their five-star, 7' 3" center, Jason Bennett asks for his release and is transferring.

Of course in the meantime, they did have both academic issues and players with legal issues.

Add to that, Huggins loses the recruiting battle for OJ Mayo, and their two best young remaining recruits, both 5-star, Walker and Michael Beasley, are likely only going to stay a year before going to the NBA, then they'll be left with a bunch of unproven 2 and 3-Star guys like Jacob Pullen and jucos Victor Dubovitzky and Andre Gilbert.
Now there's even more reports about the academic shortcomings at K-State.
K-State men's basketball scored extremely low in the recent NCAA Academic progress Report, 10th percentile!

So the Kansas State program will come crashing down fast, and some are predicting that as soon as Beasley (rated by many as the best player in the nation, potentially another Kevin Durant)
leaves for the NBA after his frosh year, then they'll have no further need for their top assistant Dalonte Hill (Beasley's AAU coach) who was obviously hired for the sole reason of luring Beasley. It is being speculated that unless Martin does exceptionally well, he and Hill may be gone next year and K-State will be starting all over again.
        It will be interesting.

        Maybe Larry Eustachy next??
