With BU being the sole CBS Network game two different times over the
weekend (Friday evening and Sunday afternoon), you'd have to give credit where credit is due,
when the ratings now show that CBS' NCAA basketball so far has been a HUGE HIT,
well above expectations, but not above what they'd hoped!
CBS reports record numbers of people watching and logging on to their online sites and streaming internet-casts!
By the way, the basketball games on Sunday overran their time slot and actually ended up winning the
7PM National time slot beating out all the other offerings of the networks.
(something completely unexpected!!)
"CBS's first-round ratings were the best since 1997"
It is thought that the controversy created by the network guys speaking out against the mid-majors
caused a backlash of people who looked in to root for the perceieved underdog.
So in an odd sort of way, Packer & Phelps have paid off for the networks by increasing viewers,
and probably BU as well as Wichita and other smaller programs had some to do with it also!
They also noted that they set records in advertising spending on network TV this past weekend!!
This guy also thinks the MVC is good for the NCAA
Hopefully this might mean the big guys will see that Duke isn't the only program that's good
for TV and advertising revenue, maybe the little guys should get in more often!!
