Should the players refuse to go into the game if they don't think they are getting enough playing time?

I agree that I enjoy the band much more than CD music, however sitting and protesting is hardly the way to help yourselves, band members. Are you there to put on a concert? or are you there to actually help the team? you guys have concerts, I've gone to a few.To be honest howver, this isn't YOUR stage, this is the basketball teams. So for you guys to purposely sit and not encourage the team hardly endears me to your cause. Ask yourselves why are we here, and if it's not to encourage the team, then I'm OK with you sitting, but if it's to create a great atmosphere for our team to play in, then get up and be loud.

Comparing apples to oranges in this case just doesn't make sense.

And Yeah, I'd tell the ball players to refuse playing if KK and BU decided that midway through the first half they all had to stop playing so some computer could simulate the rest of the game.

Its not the same thing...and if it was no one would stand for it.

The band is the loudest and most vocal section at Carver (minus the rah rahs). They've been that way for a long time...even when things were pretty crappy years back. Getting snubbed for some boring techno music doesn't exactly endear THEM to BU.

If the band just wanted to cheer on its team and watch a ball game - trust me, they'd have paid the $1 ticket price to sit and have a beer during the game.

The majority of band members come down to Carver to contribute by playing their hearts out for their team - take that away and you pull the enthusiasm for yelling and cheering right out from underneath them.

          I'm behind you band.

Like I said, I agree I like to hear the band, ALOT. I think they do a great job getting the student section going, but not cheering because they don't get to play AS MUCH, maybe a timeout or two, is not only detrimental to the team, but IMO is a bit selfish. I hope the band does get to play at all the TO's again, I really do. I just don't think punishing our basketball team by not helping them out because of some decision a white collar guy at carver made is not the way to make their opinion heard. Be loud, be rowdy, show those guys that you ARE there to get the crowd going and support the team and the time and effort they put in so we can watch them represent our school. I'll do the same. And ask yourselves if because I don't get to holler and shout in between songs at a concert, that I shouldn't give you a deserving standing O at the end of a great performance?

I hope at senior night you guys get to play at every opportunity, but if not, be a fan, and not just a fan, but be the loudest, craziest fan you can be. Make it so every day after the game everyone you talk to knows there was a game last night because you're so horse.

Here's to the band, the fan's, and the team. Lets show InSU what everyone else has to be afraid of in arch madness.

I applaud your enthusiasm AMCKILLIP. However, I think you're missing the boat.

By being loud and excited when they don't get to play only encites the "white collars" to keep doing it. If they want to get their playing time back they need to stick to their guns.

              LET THE BAND PLAY!!!!

It shouldn't even be a question.

                Exactly.

Outside of the timeouts, we're as into the game and as much about supporting the team as anyone! But if they don't see that they CD music isn't getting the crowd into it, they're not going to stop using it.

Don't get me wrong, I understand your irritation, I guess I just think punishing our BBall team is not the correct way to make a point, whether it works or not.

Lets hope the carver guys understand the crowds irritation, lets show them.

i just think its kinda stupid to play cd music when the other team is calling a time out. that usually means they are frustrated so keep the band playing for more energy and the student section will continue to go nuts

I like the idea of the band protesting in whatever fashion they want. You're in college ... have fun. You don't always have to listen to what the adults say.

I just wish there was more student backlash on the "no mascot" decision. I'm little saddened that the youth doesn't have more old fashioned, non-violent rebellion in them. You'll be adults out working for the man pretty soon - take advantage of your college years.

First of all The band does a great job. They should play much more during timeouts and at halftime. There are far too many commercials, CDs, announcements, and other activities at Carver that take the focus away from the games. I agree with others that the band seems too scripted and should go more with the flow of the game but I don't know of any fans that wouldn't rather hear the band than the PA announcer or CD music.

That being said amckillip is right on point. With all due respect the time to be sitting is not when your team is trying to make it to back to back NCAA tournaments for the first time in over 50 years. That may be gone after last night. Could the band have made a difference by cheering when they weren't playing? Maybe not. But if not all of this discussion doesn't matter. The point is I think there are better ways to get your point across. The band has alot of support and we could probably get this done by working together. Which brings me to my last point (finally). We're all in this together - students, alumni, parents, fans, players, coaches. There are enough people from the outside all too willing to throw stones at Bradley. We need to work together and not be divided by stuff like this.

I've been complaining about the stupid promotions that take the crowd out of the game for years. But when the band does play they don't play the fight song as much as they should. For a while I thought Splish Splash I was Taking a Bath was the fight song. I heard that as much as Charge On. At least we got the cheerleaders to stop the stupid pyramids which really quieted the crowd.
What part of illegal don't you understand?
