Make it a battle of the bands..uh er...cd's. When Zombie or something else is on start pounding those drums....and LOUDLY to drwon out the piped music.
I've been complaining about the stupid promotions that take the crowd out of the game for years. But when the band does play they don't play the fight song as much as they should. For a while I thought Splish Splash I was Taking a Bath was the fight song. I heard that as much as Charge On. At least we got the cheerleaders to stop the stupid pyramids which really quieted the crowd.
Sir, there's really no need to criticize us as well. Pyramids are an integral part of cheerleading - which is an integral part of the basketball game experience. There are a lot of people disappointed about us not being able to do pyramids any longer, not only cheerleaders but fans as well. I understand your ability to express your opinion - but I don't agree that pyramids "quieted the crowd". The band and the cheerleaders would really appreciate your support rather than your criticism.

I agree with DRU... Since when couldn't a live band drown out piped in music? A little horn a little drum .... unless of course the powers that be have taken your mouthpieces and sticks and only give them back when they will "allow" you to play. I seem to remember times in Robertson <yup I too am an old guy> when the band kept at it even when the players came back on the floor. Now that really isn't a good idea but what the hey. Band is supposed to be fun... sitting at the ball game isn't my idea of fun but to each his own.

And if you didn't notice, the band still played while pyramids and stunts were being performed. The crowd was just as loud, if not more. It just added to the game atmosphere. That unfounded comment above was entirely uncalled for. Let's not be ignorant here, let's keep on topic with the band.
You are wrong BUredandwhite. The crowd was quiet and the band didn't start until your pyramid was over. Halftime was a great time to show us your ability. That was long a complaint of mine, even back in the Fieldhouse. I don't know how many times right during a noisy timeout we all had to stop because of pyramid building. Even though Indiana St usually didn't have the crowds we did I was always impressed with their cheerleaders. During every timeout they ran through the crowd cheering while the band played. Was I right or wrong about playing the fight song more?
I'm gonna catch all kinds of flack here, but here it goes. I don't know if I really want the fight song played when the opposition takes a timeout. I don't think it packs enough energy. I think the band should play, but come with something more upbeat, or more intimidating. I just don't think our fight song is intimidating, it's more like you are at a festival or something. Play the fight song during media timeouts, and at the start of the second half, but I want something else when the opposition calls time outs. Nothing was better than the Tribal sound we use to play when we had the
Brave. That was exciting and the drumbeat was intimidating as well. Too bad its gone forever.

Nope...I'm afraid you are mistaken. The cheerleaders don't do any skills unitl the band starts playing. That's a sure fact, including pyramids. Also, you said "your pyramid"....who said I was a cheerleader? Topic done.
here, before someone starts killing someone else. Chico, we can't start to stunt or pyramid build until the band starts. The band keeps the crowd going, we just add to the visual. i'm sorry that you don't appreciate what we do as much as others, but i can watch the crowd applaude and we do get complimented by our fans. We haven't performed at halftime during a game is God knows how long, thats usually for the dance teams or some other entertainment.

A-ha! This is what it is all about. The Powers That Be don't want the band playing so the cheerleaders get ogled by a bunch of middle-aged politically incorrect perverts!

I've gotta disagree with ya DR1...Maybe our fight song isn't The Victors or the ND VIctory March but it is OUR fight song and when the band is blaring it out I think it is a pretty good fight song and the fans will get behind it. I also think it has the unique identity that can only be associated with Bradley University as opposed to some other song that is played in many different arenas around the country. When you go to the BU athletic web site and click on "traditions" only one thing comes up...the fight song....we only have one tradition left, let's not lose this one too.

I've been browsing these forums for a few weeks, and I figured it was finally time to sign up so I could voice my opinion on this.
I'm in the band, and we're pretty tired of the CD music. I don't think it helps "energize the crowd" any more than us playing would. I mean, getting the fans excited is what we're there for, let us play! It was especially irritating during that timeout in the second half tonight when we didn't know if we were supposed to play or if they were going to do the CD music. Finally, Mr. Loring decides we're going to play, and then right before we are going to play... Zombie Nation comes on. Then they stop it, switch to something else boring I didn't even recognize, and then back to Zombie Nation. So the worst part for us is not knowing if we are playing or if there's going to be CD music.
So yes, we have started sitting as a form of protest. It just seems pointless to have us there and then not use us much. We definitely appreciate the support from all of you who agree on this!
And as mentioned before, yes Dr. Vroman is fine but had another obligation.
Good points. let's not forget, Bradley is a UNIVERSITY. Let the STUDENTS in the band participate, for crying out loud. Bradley should always be looking for ways to involve the students not shut them out.

ABSOLUTELY! More student involvement = more student interest = more students at the games = bigger, better, louder crowds!
