Dave Reynolds' comments on the Bracketbuster games--

  • #2
I think the MVC learned the lesson of (an value of) hubris this last week. Other than UNI - Nevada (which we knew UNI would get hammered), we were 5-4. Creighton and MSU can not allow themselves to get beat at home.

SIU and BU were standouts showing that they are tournament savvy teams that rise to the occasion and can play in front of a standing room only gallery.

Good article and perspective about Bradley's chances. I thought UNI played a good first half at Nevada, but the Wolf Pack really turned it on in the second half against the Panthers. Valley teams going 55-5 against non-conference opponents at home is an outstanding achievement. Still, suffering 4 losses toward the end of the season with the spotlight on those games hurt our league rather than helped it this time around. Now it's back to hating all the other MVC teams !

The Braves could get in by winning their next 3 and losing in the semifinals in St. Louis, if the loss is close. It would be a nice feather in our cap to win 2 of 3 against SIU in the semi's or to beat Creighton for the first time if we meet in the semi's. Lots of scenarios to play out though. 22 or 23 wins without winning the MVC title will keep us in the discussion, and we could get a bonus if Tennessee Tech wins the OVC tourney (they're currently tied for 2nd). Wright State has won 17 of its last 19 games which helps Bradley, as does a Loyola team on the verge of a 20-win season. Still, anything other than Butler winning the Horizon League tourney could cost a team like us, since the HL would only be looking at 1 bid if the Bulldogs win their tourney.

First things first though--we have to play strong against UNI and INSU before even thinking about Arch Madness. Good luck Braves!
