A very complex issue is about to befall all the public schools in St. Louis....and it could conceivably affect athletics, especially upcoming state playoff basketball.
Hearings are now in progress by which the State of Missouri will take over full control of all the St. Louis public schools from the local school districts, possibly as early as Feb. 28 when the schools are likely to have their accreditation revoked.
"we are convinced that conditions in the St. Louis Public Schools have deteriorated to the point where action by the state is warranted."
This is a very serious and controversial issue and mostly a political and educational issue, but if it occurs, it could make all the St. Louis schools ineligible for the Missouri version of March Madness, as only accredited schools are eligible.
Hopefully a resolution can be found.
