  • Official Illinois Press Release-Jamar Out for the Season

It may be a premium site, so here is what it says:

CHAMPAIGN, ILL.--???‚¬?“It has been mutually agreed upon between myself and Jamar Smith and his family, that he sit out the remainder of this season so that he can focus all of his attention on the physical, emotional, academic and other related issues he will face in the coming weeks. As I said Wednesday, this is a very difficult time for Jamar. Our coaches, players and program will continue to support him as he deals with this situation.???‚¬??

Why do I feel unsurprised by this?
In fact, I would be surprised if he is ever in Blue and Orange again.
Hang in there Jamar, get things together, then walk on at BU!

If he's not going to return to Illinois, the resulting damage to win would make him very unwelcome here, methinks.

This is going to sound terrible, but we do not need baggage with the way our programs headed. Jamar was a great kid in HS but this isn't HS. He needs to get what ever help he needs and get back in school (U ofI) Good luck to the Smith family. May good things happen for you.

Why does this sound terrible, I don't think he's that good anyway, lightly recruited in high school had a great freshman year with better players around him, now with those gone defenses can key on him and his shooting percentage tells the story, plus he cant defend.

                    I don't want a B10 reject.

                      D Williams?
If you build it, the students will come.

As I remember it - D Williams rejected Wisconsin. Not the other way around.
'Tis far better to have failed at Bradley than to have graduated from Illinois State!

Yea... I wanted Cellus when he rejected the B10 for a better team and conference (Bradley - MVC).

And as you can see... the B10 has been getting MVC rejects lately... like Lance Stemler - how's that superstar MVC Reject working out for ya Kelvin?

In all fairness, both Lance Stemler and Marcus Arnold are just trying to make the best of their situation, although neither has shown himnslef to be a prime time Big Ten player yet.
Marcus has a rare good game, and as the season has worn on injury and poor shooting have caused Lance to lose a lot of his playing time.
Both, however, had they stayed in the MVC would have had the kind of success that Cellus or Paul Miller had.
